I take a long acting Dexedrine in the morning and a short acting half dose of the same later in the day. I try and match up the second dose with the peak of the half life of the of the first so I make a smooth transition. It's been working very well I think.

I have now run out of the short acting but I have some left over Ritalin from a trial earlier last fall. Is there any reason I shouldn't use the Ritalin in place of the short acting Dexedrine? It's all quite light doses.

Long acting Dexedrine @ 10mg
Short acting Dexedrine @ 5mg
Ritalin short acting @ 5mg

I can't find any incompatibility information on the web but thought I would check here where the drug wisdom runs so deep. < g >

Thanks to all.

what did you end up doing and how did it work?

initially, i wondered why you stopped your trial of ritaling in the first place. maybe there is a reason you don't want to take it???

did you talk to your doc/phamacist?

i would think that these two meds wouldn't cause in drug interaction problems. afterall, isn't adderall a mix of amphetimine salts?

Yesterday we were having company over for a big feast and given that it was the first time we were to break bread together I didn't want to risk being all ramped up like would be likely if there were no meds in my system.

I took 5mg of the Ritalin at the peak of the Dex so it would kick in while I was on the way down from the dex and it worked wonderfully.

I stopped the trial of Ritalin because it had a pronounced rebound that was pretty nasty. I also thought it was a bit crude and left me a bit more ragged than I thought I could live with. Since then I've learnt a few things and would likely reduce the dose and take it more than twice a day. I'd bet if I did those two things I'd be quite happy with it.

I saw no noticeable conflict between the dex and the Ritalin. I did not consult anyone professionally.

As long as the combined dose of the two itsn't too high there should be no problem. I found that ritalin didn't last long enough in me, so I switched to dexedrine. The shortness of it will work in your favour as a "fill in" in the afternoon.

Thanks for the confirmation Gregster. I do find that the Ritalin in small doses is good at the short period needs. I'm glad to hear it's not a big no-no in your eyes.

I've changed all my doses to try and tailor them to suit the half life of whatever has come before. I like to get clean or as close to it as I can each day so as not to build dependencies. Do you think this is a reasonable strategy? I take 10mg of long acting dex in the morning and follow it with 5mg of short acting dex in the afternoon. Periodically I'd like to extend that into the evening hours when a calm state is desireable. Mostly now I would identify social outings as being an appropriate occasion for those later doses. I'm a way better listener when I have meds in my system.
