I have been looking for the Federal dosing limits or guidelines for ADD medication. The reason is to be informed when I talk to my doctor about raising my dosage levels. It is his understanding that the maximum dosage of Adderall is only 60mg which isn't even close to being strong enough for me. This is the only doctor in town and I have already paid him allot of money (I don't have insurance). I believe I am his first Adult Patient since he was reluctant to diagnose me. If it doesn't work out with this doctor my other options are to drive over an hour to see an Adult ADD specialist.

This is just my opinion...
I'd go see the ADD specialist. Yes, it will definitely be a pain the backside for a while, but you'd be able to confirm your diagnosis & the specialist might recommend a different med completely that might work better for you.

Once you are on the correct med, you'd be seeing the specialist less, so the distance wouldn't be too big a deal. I think it'd be worth it to know what's going on & how best to treat it. And you can always talk to them by phone if you need to.

hope that helps.

Thanks tabbycat the specialist that's out of town is Dr. Kerry Buhk he comes highly recommended and has worked with Adult patients before. The big wall standing between us is the 550 diagnosis fee, and then finding a MD to prescribe the medication (more money). I have already drained my savings and then some paying for the doctor I have. This will have to work until I get my grant money in February, Insurance, or find someone I can afford to see.

Oh my god, that is an insane amount of money! In Canada all you need to do is say you are suicidal and you get free treatment so that is what I did (I am not really lol), maybe it is the same there too? I hope so.

This may be what you're looking for: http://adultadd.info/treatment/stimulant-medications/broad-issues/dosing/

According to that link, 2/3 of adults taking Adderall are fine on up to 60mg dosage. One third need a higher dose. Switching to a different med is also something worth trying as it may work better at the recommended dosage. It may be worth it to see the other doctor if he has more experience with adult ADHD.

My doctor said that 60MG is the maximum dosage for MOST people. But there are individuals who need more than 60MG of adderall a day. Talking to your doc about a med change is always an option too.
