Hello,

after living abroad for four years I'm up to my head in frustration and can't take it anymore. I know Adderall and Ritalin are not allowed in Singapore but I'm desperate enough to find alternatives. From what I've heard and read, Singapore, as a whole, does not recognize adult ADD nor recognize the ADHD/ADD difference. Does anyone have a doctor/psychologist they could recommend? Even if they are not able to differenciate the different types, I'll take ADHD meds if they work on ADD! I'm at my wits end :(

Thank you! ;)

*I know there is already a thread on Singapore but most of the posts are very old and center around mutual feelings of frustration rather than optional medical treatments*

Maybe they recognize EDS, excessive daytime sleepyness? You can get Adderall or other stimulants for that too and there is no test for it so you just have to be a really good faker. It is not a 100% though but give it a shot, pop a few benadryl to get all tired and see how it goes. Keep it all legal there though oh you could go to jail forever.

We just got back from Singapore. Our friend is a psychologist (so no ability to prescribe medications), and she's pretty skeptical about ADHD/ADD. I'll email her, though, and see if there's anyone that she recommends.

And I'll second that you don't want to push the rules in Singapore. God forbid you get caught with illegal (i.e., non-prescribed) drugs! That would NOT BE GOOD!

On the plus side, though, there are a lot of supplements that would not be available here. Have you tried one of the traditional Chinese medicine places? I'll bet that they have "over the counter" stuff that is basically ephedra, for example.

Thank you, if she knows anyone send the info my way and I'll post it on the forum for other ADD'ers in Singapore.

No, I wouldn't want to push the gov't here. I'm not going to take chances with an imminent death sentence!

Update-

I recently found ADHD_Singapore@yahoogroups.com and joined. They have a wealth of information, helpful tips, and analysis on different treatments, etc.

I have an apt with an ADD/ADHD specialist, too bad there is a 2 month waiting list! Don't they understand I have ADD and might not remember my appointment? LOL

Anyone in Singapore able to try anything other than Ritalin?!

Been on it for a bit but hating the side effects. Anyone have any luck with anything else?

Since I don't know the region well, I'll ask what may be a few stupid questions.

Does Singapore have a problem with legal residents returning from another country with presription meds? I know most countries are fine with you bringing in up to a 3 month supply while visiting, but wonder about returning citizens?

Is there another country nearby that you can find a doctor and pharmacy to dispence your prescription? I'm not suggesting a pill mill, but a legitimate medical practice.

What are the costs of commuter flights or ferry trips?
