View Full Version : Wellbutrin Made It Worse

After being on wellbutrin for a while, I lost my ability to hyperfocus, which was very important, because I am a college student. Without that, I was floundering. I got my first D.
I had panic attacks and suffered more acute anxiety, too. Frustration brought out my natural temper. I could barely live with myself.

It wasn't good for me.

Daisy - That's too bad....I'm a college student too and on Wellbutrin and also rely on meds to literally get me my grades...getting the D obviously was debilitating for you. Were you on the maximumm dosage for the Wellbutrin? Would an additional med for the anxiety help? In any event, if it no longer works, it no longer works....don't give up....you say you got your first D...you don't have to get another...you were doing great up until then.....there's other meds out there....Another visit to your doctor....Good luck...

I was on 150 mg twice a day. I'm not sure, but I think that is the maximum dose. One good thing it did for me: I was a pack a day smoker and I was down to 3 or 4 cigs a day before I quit. Of course, since I quit, I'm smoking more again...

What other meds are you on? Which one do you think helped you the most with focusing and getting assignments done (and done well)?

Thanks,

Daisy

If I wasn't on Wellbutrin, I don't know if I would have passed the 5th grade. Oh well. I hope that something will help you Dasiy. I hope I will also do good in middle School.

Im cconcerned about some things you stated. Have you been on any other adhd meds and if so what were the reactions to them?

When I was on Wellbutrin a few years ago it too made my anxiety worse. Of course at the time I didn't realize I had anxiety.

Maybe you should talk to your Dr about adressing the anxiety too. Both AD/HD and Anxiety need to be addressed together. Many AD/HD medications especially stimulants can make anxiety worse when taken with out something to treat the anxiety.

Just the Wellbutrin for the ADD...I was on Strattera for about a month with the Wellbutrin -- in hopes of getting even better focus because I was having trouble getting motivated to complete my assignments, WELL, as you say...I mean they were getting done but I think I could have been putting forth more effort, in looking back.....but the side effects for me on the Strattera were awful....BUT I'm also on a separate med for anxiety -- klonopin -- PRN which I do need to take occasionally. But as far as the best med which helped actually in getting assignments done -- it was the Wellbutrin....By the way, if are on 300 mg per day (150 2x per day), that may be the maximum dose for you, but that's not the maximum dose for me allowed by my doctor. I'm on 400 mg.

As I said before, I am fine with it.

I started taking Adderall recently. It is working better for me. I'm a little more hyper, but nothing bad yet. As far as it helping me with school, I can focus a little better.

Fingers crossed and hopeful,

Charliegirl, if the adderall doesn't work for you, ask your doctor about Strattera. It really helped me with my focus at work. I have no idea how it would affect your anxiety though.
