I would like to add Dr. Karen Rogers in Lubbock. She is a medical doctor, her specialty is listed as a developemental specialist, who treats children with ADD/ AD/HD. I know that she accepts my insurance. Listed under Pediatric Associates of Lubbock. She is pretty no nonsense but really listens to the kids and parents. 806-793-7257 7501 Quaker Avenue. She takes about 6 to 8 weeks to get into, but worth it.

It depends on whom your insurance will cover. I've heard good things about a Dr. Salazar - think he's on Dairy Ashford - not sure. He might be a psychologist rather than a psychiatrist. Dr. William K. Drell is in Memorial City and a psychiatrist. He seems to see a lot of ADHD patients and is pleasant although it can take a while to get in.

Another way to get suggestions as well as get support is to attend a NAMI support group meeting. (National Alliance for Mental Illness) There's a west Houston group as well as groups scattered around the city. They meet at different times and places. Do a search on google - they have a lot of information online about various mental illnesses. Most people start off with one diagnosis and end up with others as more is recognized about their disease and as more is recognized about brain disorders in general. You need all the support you can get and it sounds like you're heading in the right direction!

Her name is doctor kimberly L. Warfield from maxhealth colleyville.
She is pretty straight forward. she looked at my papers, gave me a simple examination and then wrote out the presciption. The only questions were family history and ask if I smoked. Thats it.. Hope this helped.

Call Dr. Gary Arthur on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Tampa. He's a great guy, and smokes a pipe (love that smell). When I go for my follow-ups, I only pay about $70 which is way reasonable. Good luck!

Just found this thread.

Dr. Richard Pesikoff is great. It's him and several Nurse Practicioners.

www.drpesikoff.com (http://www.drpesikoff.com/)

He is near the med center. You might have to wait a few weeks for an appt, but it's worth it.

My doc is a neurologist with lots of experience with add/adhd. His name is Herbert Edmundson. You can check out the website memorialneurological.com and see if you would feel comfortable going this route. I was so comfortable with him that I recently took my 8 yr old daughter to him for eval/treatment.

Yes - My son has been seeing Dr.Young for the past 3 years. I must say I am very pleased with all of his services. He was able to help with not just the emotional but the medical side of things. He has been treating ADHD for something like 20+ years and knows what it takes to get it under control. I hope this helps.. I believe the website to contact him is: ADHD Dallas (http://docyoung.com)

I went to the... Holiner Psychiatric Group I think it was called, they're located at that Medical City hospital in Dallas. I initially went for anti-depressents, but they later gave me ADHD meds. They work with teens, adults, and kids, and they deal with many, many, many different disorders and conditions. Google them, see if you can find anything.

I would say Dr. Grant and Fisher would be good in Bedford. Dr. Smith and Dr. Young are super nice and very very helpful as well. Dr. Kahn in the midcities is also someone I am familiar with as well. Good luck!

Dr. Beard in Dallas is great but you have to submit your own insurance bills. I just pay cash.

Welcome to the Forum. I'm always happy to greet another Texan to the boards.:)

If you don't have them already, pick up copies of Driven to Distraction and Delivered from Distraction by Ned Hallowell & John Ratey. Half-Price usually has a copy or two.

Start here (http://www.addaustin.com/index.html) with a search for a doctor. You'll find that many ADD/ADHD specialists, and pdoc's, don't accept third party payments, so not having insurance should not be a problem.

Enjoy your stay here at ADDF!

I was referred to Gil Custer by my therapist...it took a few weeks to get an appointment with him, but well worth the wait. He spent two full hours with me before diagnosing me and sending me away with some med samples - enough for a month. The appointment wasn't cheap (around $400) but that's a pretty small price for validation and taking your life back - or getting it to begin with. He doesn't file insurance even if you have it, so don't worry about that. I think the follow-up appointments are around $175, but there will also be the cost of medication. I'm just paying cash for it all because I can't afford for any mental health stuff to show up on my crap insurance plan - I'm not sure if there are programs out there if that's a problem, but someone here may know.

(I'm in week 3 of the medication and things are definitely changing for the better - I'm not stuck or overwhelmed as much anymore, can focus so much more calmly on things that would have left me in a tizzy before...it was pretty daunting at first but has definitely been a great investment in myself!

I am attempting to get a single place for people to go when they are looking for professional in their region to help with ADD - I have copied post from other threads starting with the very beginning until the time of this witting. I placed all recommendations for doctors into this single thread so that all the information would be in a single place.

If you know a good reputable health care practitioner that treats adults with ADD by all mean do share - if one really really sucks then by all means do share that to -

With that said:

Please be advised readers are responsible for all research into any and all health care professionals as well as baring the sole responsibility for final ADD treatment decisions. ADDF doesn't recommend or endorse any one and all opinions shared by the member are the opinions of that member and in no way reflects the opinion of ADDF as a community

Although I won't delete recommendations for children I am mostly looking for adult ADD care. Texas is a huge state so please do include which area in Texas you are from.

In the mean time I do have a collection of directories located in the diagnosis section than may be of use to some Where Can I Find a Health Care Professional? (http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33989)

Watch out for Dr Edmondson. He was referred to us by a friend and he was an absolute jerk. I went with my husband to the appt. and he relies on me to help him with day to day paperwork because he just doesn't have the patience for it. The Dr was MAD that I filled out his ppwk and then proceeded to inform me that this was my husbands appt and I should "sit there and shut up"! I have NEVER had anyone speak to me that way, but then again all neuro drs think they are above regular people. My husband continued to go to him only for several more months and he said that he was also rude to him also not to mention that the staff confused his records with another patients' and it was a disaster! That is OUR experience with him. Our son is also ADHD. We were told to go to LifeTrek. I think it is www.lifetrek.com. My pediatrician recommended them. We just have not been as of yet.

Just a suggestion, this is kind of confusing as you've got all the regions sorta meshed together. It might be a good idea to have posts with all of the DFW metro cities, Austin Area, Houston Area, San Antonio area, then a post that lists the rest of the misc areas by location (east texas, west texas, panhandle, etc.).

Hi, according to some research I did, I found Dr. Barry Gritz has EXCELLENT reviews. I couldn't goto him though, the next appt slot was about 2 weeks away when I looked a few months ago. He's located about 10-15 minutes from downtown I believe, you could google him. He also has ADD so that's a big plus in my book.

I didn't goto him though. I'm near the woodlands area so I found someone mention a Dr. Vaidyanath (sp?) Iyer on these forums, and I tracked him down and his timings worked well with me. He's located in the woodlands. He diagnosed me without much discomfort. He's really nice too. He, as well as most other shrinks, charge ~$225 for the initial visit, ~$110 for the follow up, and $85 thereafter. Maybe they will offer a cash discount, I'm not sure. I am going to ask tomorrow since I have an appt for tomorrow.
