Anyone have any experience with DL-Phenylalanine or L-Tyrosine? Dr. Amen's book on "Healing ADD" claims it can be helpful.

Personally wouldn't recommend unless your diet -- especially the protein -- is really really lousy....and I mean lousy....And I wouldn't bother with tyrosine at all...body can make...:)

Personally, I like tyrosine. My body must not be making enough. I take it in the AM and it helps turn the lights on in my head.

I work at a vitamin store so I have "experimented" with many different vitamins/herbs. I tried DLPA, and L-phenylalanine for about 4 months with no results whatsoever, so I wouldn't recommend it. I just started L-tyrosine yesterday to so we'll see how it goes. Also I started taking inositol powder, its supposed to help with anxiety/depression.

Amino's dont work for ADHD and Amen is not held in high esteem by many psychologists & psychiatrists.

Forgot to mention - we're talking 1500mg of tyrosine. Not a little dose, but you do what you have to do, right?

I'm taking 1000, maybe I will up it to 1500

If you like, I'll let you know how it interacts w/ the nootropics when I get them. I have a friend who said the picamilon worked really well for her ADHD symptoms and the only reason she didn't keep taking it was b/c it was easier for her to get Adderall (b/c you had to order it from overseas. They have places in the U.S. that order it for you now). Things that make you go hmmmmm. I think I'm just surprised that with as much suffering as this syndrome can cause, that more people haven't looked into it and don't seem to be interested in doing so. I'm looking for ANYTHING that can help me manage this mess effectively. I hate how it screws with my life and I resist taking standard ADD medication because so many of my ADD friends that take it (stimulants or otherwise) tell me that it doesn't help them with the symptoms that I find most troubling.

Sorry about the mini-rant - I'm not feeling terribly well today and it's kind of ruined my weekend.
