I'm trying to find people in my area that also are supported by my insurance, Cigna.
I live in Woodbridge, New Haven County. New Haven, Orange, Milford, Ansonia are all close to me.

My insurance has a search engine for Providers covered by them, but I'm wondering if anyone knows any who are good with ADD.

here's the search engine, and my zip is 06525 http://apps.cignabehavioral.com/web/acref/PMRSController?cat=psexpanded

Also I called up my Insurance and they gave me a list of people, I'd be willing to post it if anyone is willing to take a look.

She really knows her ADHD stuff-- and takes insurance! She is located in the Northfield section of Litchfield (right near Thomaston-- easy off Route 8).

Also-- she sees children, as well as spouses of ADHDers (she is one herself! As well as the parent of an ADHD child). She has a GREAT children's room!!

Has anybody here ever gone to Marc Schwartz in New Haven CT?
He has an "ADD Skills Training Program" - has anyone participated in this program?

I've just gone through a very dissatisfying experience with the Connecticut Center for ADHD, which is part of ProHealth Physicians. I went for treatment of previously diagnosed adult ADHD. Nearly two months after my first visit, I hadn't received any treatment, or even a diagnosis. In the meantime, I had exactly three half-hour sessions with a Dr. Katz, who spent much of that time either reviewing his notes from the previous session or asking questions I'd previously answered. After each session, he said the Center would be in touch with me to set up the next appointment; each time, I waited weeks for a call that never came and ended up having to call the Center. The last time I called, an office staffer told me they were still waiting for a consulting panel to review my case -- "hopefully" that week, but no promises.

It might be plain ineptitude, but it appears more likely that this practice is stretched too thin, hoping to do a volume business rather than provide the personalized practice it advertises. In short, it's a medical McDonald's.

This experience taught me above all to avoid medical "centers," which seem designed primarily to deflect accountability. (After much Web surfing, I stiill can't figure who to complain to at ProHealth -- or even where to send my complaint.) From now on, I'll seek out individual doctors.

Hey Writer,

I'm not from CT, but I was checking "New Posts" and this came up. I'm sorry you had such crummy service, but I LOVE the way you wrote about it! Especially:

Boy! I can really identify! I believe I've not only been to those type of "centers" - but I believe I recently worked at one. I think the part about "deflecting accountability" is good. I'll have to remember that one.

Wishing you a quick find for the good service you're looking for,
Sue

Hi all -

Starting to prepare for the possibility of moving from my general physician for my ADD treatment to a specialist. Anyone have any Pysch doc reccomendations in these areas? I live in Lebanon, so anything in SE CT would probably work, and I also work in Hartfor....so anywhere in Hartford or between Lebanon and Hartford would be convenient.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for summarizing your experience at the ADHD center in Middletown. I wish I was a member of this group prior to taking my daughter there. We had the exact same experience.
And to answer Melv's question, yes this is Dr. Katz in Middletown, CT.

i would not recommend Dr Karashik; i went ot see him and he said he would send me and his psychiatric nurse the evaluation in two weeks.. it never came he never returned my calls and any time i contacted him he said he was working on it or that he would send it right out, ... this went on from sept 21 2006 when i saw him until after christmas. i finally recieved the evaluation after filling a complaint with the CT department of public health in january 2007.
does anyone know of a good add doc for diagnosis and stimulant medication in CT?

Hi-

My doctor, Marc Schwartz has just let me know that he is retiring from practice effective May 2008. I've been advised to seek a new provider for treatment. I'm looking for providers in the Danbury/Newtown area. My PCP Z. Michael Taweh in Danbury also offers ADD/ADHD treatment, however I'm hoping to find psychologist/psychiatrists in the region that specialize in it and would accept Cigna insurance

I am attempting to get a single place for people to go when they are looking for professional in their region to help with ADD - if you know a good reputable health care practitioner that treats adults with ADD by all mean do share - if one really really sucks then by all means do share that to -

With that said:

Please be advised readers are responsible for all research into any and all health care professionals as well as baring the sole responsibility for final ADD treatment decisions. ADDF doesn't recommend or endorse any one and all opinions shared by the member are the opinions of that member and in no way reflects the opinion of ADDF as a community

Although I won't delete recommendations for children I am mostly looking for adult ADD care

In the mean time I do have a collection of directories located in the diagnosis section than may be of use to some Where Can I Find a Health Care Professional? (http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33989)

I'm having the same experience with Dr. Katz, CT center for ADD. I mean, after about 2 months I got diagnosed, but it takes weeks to get in there just to get my meds adjusted and I was under the impression I was going to get some counseling to get my life in order and not just drugs, but that doesn't seem to be the case so I'm still looking for a pdoc or counselor in hartford.

Where did you get this quote from - I just read it last and it really hit home - just curious... ' Please do not think me cold, for I do want loving arms to hold, but I am so sick of being used and abused...If I die alone tomorrow I die unbruised'
