The Institute is a center for policy, research and training, The programs are geared toward the mental health professionals in the state of Missouri, they are listed as follows: Evaulation & Policy Division: evaluates public mental health programs, providing data to influence state policy decisions. It also reviews the scientific literature to analyze mental health policies at the national level. Mental Health Systems Research Unit- research in mental health computing and the development of management information systems for use in clinical mental health settings. Major focus is the assessment and tracking of mental health clients and services. Continuing Education: delivers programs that enhance the skills of mental health professionals and disseminate information about mental health and substance abuse into the community. Library- offers 25,000 volumes of books and journals and 400 current journal subscriptions. The library is open to professionals and the public. Child and Family Mental Health Services - provides evaluation and research in support of children and families with mental health and substance abuse related needs.

An organization of volunteers, in cooperation with the physician, is to assist patients who may qualify to enroll in one or more of the many patient assistance programs now available. These programs provide prescription medicine free of charge to individuals in need, regardless of age, if they meet the sponsor's criteria. If you are approved and enrolled, your medication will be sent to your doctor and they will dispense it to you free of charge.
