Dan Gilbert on how we fool ourselves out of Happiness

Posted 04-29-12 at 01:48 PM by KCTang (Adapting to ADHD)
This is a great video I found on happiness.

He explains how it's very subjective, and oftentimes we fool ourselves into thinking an outcome that's logically beneficial is going to make us happy.

I'm really big on shaping our perceptions to help us adapt to whatever circumstances life throws at us.

It's definitely worked for me, and I still push myself this way. Especially when I catch myself focusing on the wrong thing (or my wife points it out to me)...

Monkey's new haircut

Posted 04-28-12 at 04:27 PM by KCTang (Adapting to ADHD)
Our landlady had been insisting for days that she could cut our son's hair for us when he was taking a nap. Considering the mushroom/bowlcut that we'd seen her give her own daughter, we were hesitant to agree.

We'd been trying for weeks to get our hairdresser friend over for some company and her snip-snip, but plans kept falling through.

Well, our landlady finally got her way when she was over yesterday...

Here's the "Before" picture:

A great question was asked in the general forum yesterday by beradical.

Do we fear boredom on a subconscious level?

Some people found my response helpful, so I thought I'd post it here, in case anyone else might be interested.

On a certain level, yes.

But it's not really fear as much as 'avoidance', or 'aversion'.

We are continually motivated to seek 'interest' and 'thrill' due to our brain's neurology,

ADHD - Why we procrastinate and avoid work (version 2)

Posted 04-19-12 at 08:15 PM by KCTang (Adapting to ADHD)

My first blog post was of a model of explaining a theory I thought up a year ago, on why we procrastinate, why things are boring to us.

This post is a take on why we avoid starting the work itself, which was my reply in this forum thread about anxiety and it's relation to procrastination.

First, here's the flowchart version, for all you visual learners like me. (For those of you who don't mind a little reading, the more detailed written version is below.)
