Sweets and ADHD

Posted 04-16-12 at 11:29 PM by KCTang (Adapting to ADHD)
I got home from work today to a very cranky baby boy.

Seems he climbed the recliner in his room (a first) and pulled down a box of chocolates and Cadbury mini eggs from the shelving next to it (a 2nd first).

He ate 3 whole pieces of dark chocolate and a couple of the eggs, and by the time I got home, was experiencing the 'crash' that comes after the sugar rush. Doesn't help that he couldn't go down for a nap because of it either.

That's my boy!

My son will be 15 months old in a couple days.

He's an adorable little guy, very well-behaved, and it makes my wife and I wonder whether
our next kid (if/when we have one) is going to be a little hellion to compensate .

Something happens to you though, when you read and think lots about ADHD, and you have
a kid, is you start to wonder just what is a sign of ADHD and what isn't....

They say the universe abhors a void.

This I can believe, because the more problems I fix, the more seem to come my way.

Starting a few weeks back...
  • I find out in March that the gov't hadn't received my 2010 income tax return. Which was odd because I definitely filed it in August or September last year. (Late, but better than the previous few years that have gone unfiled ).

The Problem with Fighting ADHD with Effort

Posted 04-12-12 at 02:55 PM by KCTang (Adapting to ADHD)
There has been a number of posts/threads lately that have been echoing the whole "Rah rah --- I'm going to battle my ADHD with effort" type of passion, which is admirable. I can relate to that burning desire to surmount the endless problems caused by our disorder...

But that type of thinking has its limitations and can bring a lot of frustration.

This is just from my own experience, of course. But I've banged my head fighting my ADHD this way, a lot. Now...

ADHD - Why we procrastinate and avoid work

Posted 06-08-11 at 05:37 PM by KCTang (Adapting to ADHD)

I've been doing a lot of self-study on this topic over the last few years and putting together a framework for me to better understand how my ADHD works. Here's what I can share so far.

-People with ADHD have brains that crave Stimulation (Stim). It makes us seek excitement and avoid boring, mundane tasks.

-At any given moment, we have a 'Stimulation Threshold' of what is interesting or stimulating enough to hold and keep our attention.

-The height of...
