my name is Jens. I am 40 years old and have been diagnosed about half a year ago. Being a doctor myself (well not excatly - I am a dentist) I suspected having adhd for quite a while. Having had some expercinence with illegal substances in the past I noticed getting calm when taking something while others got really active (obviously dependent on the dose).

I have been taking methylphenidat (product is called medikinet and contains a slow release form of methylphenidat as well as a normal one) since then which really helped especially with my temper and impulsivity (is this even an english word???). Anyway - I now read the fourth book and the more I read and know the more I realize how much ADHD (in my case a very mild hyperactive part) is holding me back. Unfortunately while I was doing more or less fine (obviously lots of trouble at school) small issues that never have been of great interest to me or the people around me I notice that these problems are getting more and more serious with time. I am very self councious even if get lots of good feedback. Regardless if it is about chatting up a woman or being in a group of people where I am the new one I find myself struggleing more and more to connect. This is 50% my fault as I get bored pretty quick and as soon as I hear things like football, cars, marvel movies etc I am gone and then on the other hand the things I like to talk about seem a bit weird to lots of people.

There is a Germany forum but as diagnosis and treatment or lets say acceptance of ADHD is way more developed than it is in Germany (most of my friends don't take this seriously and I feel ashamed when I want to talk about stuff that has to do with it fearing that people might think this is just an excuse or some topic to feel important etc.) I thought I gonna have a look in here and see what is happening on the other side of the atalantic ocean. I am really interested in seeing how other people cope with problems I have too and that I don't really have an answer for. I am visiting a coach / therapist who does know about adhd but I am just in the beginning and would need a much more intense appointmentplan than his appointmentbook allows.

It seems clear that the medication is doing positive on certain aspects but obviously can not treat things that are the result of being a bit different. So yeah opefully I will get some intersting insights into other peoples way of experiencing, living, enjoying and working with the condition. ]]>

Think the last time i logged on here must have been around 2015....

I was always a bit of an outsider looking in at that point, never having actually found the motivation and strength to pick up that phone and make an appointment to a psych...

But finally last week I took the plunge...

Now I know officially where so many of my struggles in life have come from and I'm beginning treatment.

So...

Started working in merchandising dept of a company 2 days (Monday and Tuesday) a week which requires a lot of focus and attention to detail. Wasnít really motivated on my 15 xr so I tried to experiment and take (2) 15xr before work. It went great, really motivated, euphoria, focus etc. only down side is I donít sleep but about two hours the first night (Monday) but by Tuesday night Iím ready to crash so that work . Now since Iíve doubled up on the two days, I stopped taking even my prescribed dosage the rest of the week for fear of building a tolerance. I started this about 3 weeks ago and today I noticed the slightly wear off about an hour or two earlier than usual. Is this the inevitable tolerance building? And if so, am I still better off only taking my adderall as needed but maybe asking for 20XR. Any insight would be appreciated, thanks!

** I havenít mentioned this to my psychiatrist yet. Iíll see her in two weeks to discuss.... hard to get her by phone and didnít want to confuse her over an email by trying to explained I was experimenting with my meds. ]]>

My name is Misty. Iím 41, F and have been living with ADHD (as like to say) before ADD was ďcoolĒ. Lol. Which obviously, to those who actually suffer from it-itís our own personal hell.
I controlled my ADHD for years with nicotine and alcohol. My ADHD comes with a **** ton of anxiety (yay). Anyway, I recently quit. And in the middle of paramedic school. So needless to say, Iím a train wreck. I tried Adderall about 10 years ago- made me a psychopath. Angry, all the time. I hyper focused (tunnel vision). My doctor recently put me on focalin 10 mg. And I feel exactly like I did on Adderall... anxious but energetic. Not helping me focus at all, but helping with the depression that comes from quitting smoking so thatís good.
My question is, Iím beginning to think stimulants just makes things worse for me. The negative outweigh the good. Anyone on anything other than a stimulant? I feel like I canít sit in my own skin... looking for alternatives. Thank you! ]]>

Just too ADD http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=190281&goto=newpost Wed, 07 Feb 2018 16:33:24 GMT Hello. I'm justtooadd. I was diagnosed with ADHD combined as a child, but I am primarily inattentive as an adult. Moderately successful despite being unmedicated since the end of middle school. Started medication a few months ago at 33, and with my newfound clarity, faced with the realization that my life could have turned out much better. The past is the past, I guess. Looking forward to finally being able to reach my goals! I'm here to continue learning as much as I can about ADHD. ]]> New Member Introductions justtooadd http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=190281 Newly diagnosed at 36 http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=190251&goto=newpost Mon, 05 Feb 2018 18:15:34 GMT Hello everyone, I've recently received an official diagnosis of ADHD-I. I'm newly diagnosed and after going through the grief and acceptance stages for the last 3 months about it, I've been started on 20mg Adderall XR and while it's helped me tremendously already, I can see the negative side effects are really affecting me. The Adderall crash I get is mind-numbing and it takes 2-3 hours to get out of my horrible, sad, unmotivated mood. :(
Anyway, thanks for having me. ]]>
