Wait, what was I going to post again? Oh, yes, right! (ADD humor) :)

Long story short, I am glad that I found this website. I have had ADHD my whole life, which has been a blessing and a curse (or at least I'm hoping there are more 'blessings' to it). I joined this site to see if 'I am not alone' with problems that I experience in my life.

In a nutshell, growing up, I was the 'class clown' who displayed all of the symptoms of ADD/ADHD, but my parents denied it, or were just ignorant ("Boys will be boys!"). I also had a weight-problem as a kid, so my ADHD helped me in blurting things out that were witty and deflected the attention from my "stupidness" and my weight problem. I was popular throughout school, since I was able to quickly win people over to my side due to my quick wits (also, it was a big defense mechanism since if I didn't make people laugh, then I'd be at risk of being teased).

This was all well-and-good as a student, but as an adult, I have been misunderstood, forgetful, fought depression issues, and have felt a lack of motivation in life.

Perhaps I should just "get it out" and say it now...I'm 33 and I have been a job hopper most of my life (not bragging about that, but I know too I shouldn't be ashamed of myself). My problem is that even with my prescribed Adderrall, I still don't have much interest in large amounts of studying, which is required for grad school. I realize I'll probably have to learn to 'mind tweak' myself and find a way to make it fun, once I go that route.

I am tired of working dead-end jobs, and have struggled with self-dislike ("Why aren't I more successful? What is wrong with me?")

My strengths are writing and entertaining, and when I am absorbed in writing a book, I can have laser-like focus; Ditto with performing improv. My main problem is finding a job that "pays the bills", which writing and entertaining don't do (at least not at first, assuming I keep a positive mindset with my thinking).

Anyone else struggled with their career, or known ADHD people that have? I'm tired of not living up to my potential and have tried career aptitude tests. The tests have mostly said I'd be a match in 'Public Realtions', 'Human Resources', 'Counseling', and even 'Teaching' (screams in terror)...(I used to teach 7th graders).

Thanks again and I apologize if this is kinda scattered and doesn't flow smoothly (More proof that I am ADHD! :D) and if anyone has any helpful advice, I'd appreciate it. :) ]]>

Hello from Alaska http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192619&goto=newpost Wed, 01 Aug 2018 01:11:21 GMT Hello, my name's Sawyer. I'm 23-years-old and was diagnosed with ADD when I was 21. I've been on Vyvanse for over a year and a half. It's been mostly good, but I think I'm starting to experience some adverse side effects and I'm looking for some input and advise on that.

I'd also love to provide advice to other students with ADD. I know everyone's experience will be different, but I managed to make it almost all the way through college before I was diagnosed and I learned a thing or two about coping in an academic environment along the way. ]]>

A little late to the party having finally being diagnosed at 51. Single working parent to three; 2 are younger adults already diagnosed since school, the youngest is about to embark on possible diagnosis.

No idea, why I didnít get myself tested years ago. Perhaps it would have made life a little easier.

Still, never too late, I guess. Looking forward to rummaging around the forum and contributing where I can :-) ]]>

Hi friends! http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192478&goto=newpost Sat, 21 Jul 2018 18:06:09 GMT Hello! This is a first big step to me getting better and to be honest i've been feeling very anxious recently about this.

I'm 16 years old and was only diagnosed recently, I was put on Ritalin 10mg. I'm just very confused and weirded out. I've been doing research and found out that ADD/ADHD is mainly genetic? and some websites (like this: 23 Signs You Do Not Have ADHD) nobody in my family has it, so i'm very anxious and feel worried that I was diagnosed wrong.

Though in saying that, I know my whole life i've been struggling with inattentiveness and I was never ever capable of doing anything I wasn't interested in for more than 10mins. I'm confused since I notice that people have different stories to me, as in having a voice or words constantly repeating over and over again or distractions repeating over and over.

Personally, I've never found that a problem it was merely just me Not being able to pay attention and being stuck on thoughts, these thoughts would come anytime I wasn't really doing anything interesting.

I get distracted by the smallest sounds and it doesn't repeat in my head nor did i see images like showcased in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t32CK5t8d2Q
but I don't know if it's the case for other people

Another thing i'm confused about is if i'm invested in something i'm interested in, as in browsing through or reading something interesting the distractions stop and i could go on to do my work for hours on end, but on the other hand if i try to do school work or something uninteresting for more than 10 mins without taking meds I feel bored and constantly stuck on thoughts.

I have a bunch of other questions but i'd really just like to say hi, and i kinda forgot that i had to do my assessment. :|

so yea

Hi :) ]]>
