I am a young adult female who was diagnosed with ADD (I think combined type would be the most accurate label but am not sure whether ADD or ADHD was the official diagnosis) at age 11 and started on adderall. Parents and teachers noticed a huge difference, much improved symptoms, tolerable side effects (learned to eat when not hungry, ticks occurred at one point so a medication vacation was taken and that solved that). Adderall is definitely a huge game changer for me, and I would not be where I am today without it.

However, I noticed my health declining by age 13 and can't seem to figure out what the problem is anymore but I know I was a very active kid and am now a fairly sedentary and uncomfortable adult. I am not sure what is adderall side effects, what is poor diet, what might be a combination of both, or whether there is something else going on health wise. I tell myself if I legitimately have had less than ideal health (excessive fatigue, anxiety, poor motivation, aches and pains or burning sensation, muscle tension, tingling, migraines, etc) for over a decade the various tests I have had over the years should have found something by now, so I am leaning towards my meds or poor diet (complicated by allergies and a lack of cooking skills/desire to eat food not prepared via microwave).

I am hoping to find answers to questions such as what supplements people have found beneficial and/or what medications work well for people without causing significant side effects.

Sorry for such a long introduction post! ]]>

Hello new member here http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=189011&goto=newpost Fri, 17 Nov 2017 03:08:14 GMT This is my first post. I was diagnosed adhd a couple months ago and have been reading here quite often. Many posts have been helpful to me. I would like to thank everyone who has posted. Basically I've found I've made through life on pure IQ rather than any skill and my adhd seems to have blocked me from a true success in fact leading to a slow decline and alot of misery in the years leading up to my diagnoses. However I now know what this is and have some relief. Vyvance seems to do wonders for me but I do notice it wears off at night and at times I feel hopeless until morning. This I believe is situational until I can gain some steps to becoming productive again. Hopefully it's a new beginning at least I tell myself that at night. Again thx for the posts. ]]> New Member Introductions Cabby44 http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=189011 <![CDATA[Hello y'all]]> http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188871&goto=newpost Sun, 12 Nov 2017 01:34:19 GMT Hello all, I registered to share experiences and gain insight from people who have been dealing with this problem for a while. After lurking on here on and off for years, Iíve decided to get involved and start putting myself out there.

I am almost 40 and was diagnosed at 17 and again at 27 with ADD. I was on Adderall and then after that, Concerta for about a year total in 2004-2005. I didnít like how the meds made me feel (sluggish, heart palpitations, muscle fatigue) on Adderall and Concerta made me very angry which was not ok. So l decided to stop treatment completely which was not a good decision.

My inattentiveness and scattered brain along with task management and prioritization issues and tendency to be messy have gotten worse over time and Iím not ok with how they are affecting my life. Itís time to start treatment again.

I look forward to getting to know you guys and hopefully we can help each other through this!

Hi my name is Tjerekii it is pronounced Cherokee. When I say I was the first it is because I was the first one to get the medication. I was there when they compounded it. The doctor I was saying his name was Steve and if you see this Dave I would like to see you again you changed my life dramatically and when I thought there was no hope you handed out how like it was sunshine in your pocket. There's two forms of desoxyn there is desoxyn, and desoxyn gradumet.

I was prescribed this drug when I was 5 years old I have a rare condition that causes me to have central nervous system dysfunction this is a physical defect that causes hyperactivit attention deficit disorder and if you are classified was central nervous system dysfunction you noticed I put hyperactivity first. My central nervous system disorder is due to a birth defect that gives me a narrowing spinal cord in my neck. Is slows the blood down to my central nervous system therefore they have to give me stimulant class just paid the blood fast enough going through the narrowing to make my central nervous system perform correctly the two vertebrae that are defective in my neck control my heart rate my blood pressure my breathing basically my respiratory system without this medication is like one system taking over and catching up for this lack of another one now that I am older without the medication my abdomen stops working when I don't have it and I have to control my breathing by remembering to breathe in and out.

I had all kind of learning disabilities going through school reading disability which I have overcame today it is known to be the reading disorder dyslexia I also have graphalexia coordination problems perception problems and impulse control problems. The medication desoxyn is named for its function it is methamphetamine hydrochloride active ingredients glucose lactose and saturate is what I get in my inert ingredients this is the truth form of desoxyn. hydrochloride in the active ingredients is what makes it a gradual mat many extended release your body thinks that the hydrochloride is poison which causes your body to react by slowing the absorption rate of anything in your stomach but if you notice there is glucose in the ingredients along with citrate the glucose is a sugar push to cause the ingredients to go into your system faster which causes this medication to not oxidize till it hits your bloodstream hence the word desoxyn dissolves oxidizes in bloodstream which is also helped by the citrate cap we're all is cap with dextro which is sugar from Citrus does oxen is capped in his inert ingredients with only citrate a strong form of citric acid while one is capped in front the other is capped on the end of the medication formulation

If you're receiving desoxyn without hydrochloride you're just for saving I strong stimuli class medicine that is not Time released with hydrochloride but if you're receiving desoxyn gradumet you're probably getting the same format of desoxyn that I am getting and you may also have this rare condition with central nervous system dysfunction if you have access to a PDR Physicians desktop reference if you look it up it will say with or without central nervous system dysfunction anyway take your medication as directed on the bottle and if you have any problems whatsoever take them to your doctor and discuss them I was told as an adult to keep a safe in my house and keep the medication in the safe which it is best to do so because light will kill it also don't tell any of your friends what this medication is or even that you take anything like it because you never know where that information might end up and it could put You In Harm's Way

I would like to wish you are well.
Peace love and respect

Say hello to a weirdo! http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188809&goto=newpost Wed, 08 Nov 2017 20:21:44 GMT Hi guys!

I'd like to say hello to all of you. I'm almost 30 years old guy living in Poland. Let me say a couple of words about me.

First of all, I've never been diagnosed of ADD or ADHD. I have visited quite a few psychologists and attended group therapy with my symptoms of neurosis and constant anxiety, especially social anxiety.

I have some suspicions I might have ADD or ADHD, but not sure which one. I am hyperactive and easily freezed at the same time. I freeze in all stressful situations, feeling like moving my body is a struggle. I've seen many of you mention thinking about multiple things at once. That's exactly what I do too. Sometimes it's more like jumping from one to another and sometimes it's a few at once, including - so popular among you - playing a song in the mind.

The funny part is that I work as a programmer. I have very hard time to learn anything new, but I must say I learn very deeply, always keeping track if I fully understand a subject. Sometimes I need to repeat a sentence many times before it gets caught by my mind. I can understand something, but things don't get registered fully if I just read a sentence once. And that's even for obvious sentences in an article about cutting bread.

My mind is very critical too. I think critically about everything, which makes me feel detached. I can't stand how people do things automatically, and at the same time I'm jealous. Contemplation is my fetish. And man, that slows down a progress in life.

That's it for now :) I hope to find soulmates here, who experience something similar. Please let me know if you feel like I belong. ]]>

A homecoming of sorts http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188783&goto=newpost Tue, 07 Nov 2017 21:30:15 GMT Hello fellow Add'ers

I am new here, but in a way it feels i have been here before.

Having browsed through the various sections, and reading up on people's stories, issues, and their reflections on the past, present and future of their lives, it is like finally coming home to my tribe...

I recognize the struggle of many, the way it went under the radar for parts of their lives, the often unintended collateral damage this condition causes and finally the realisation that seen through the lenses of ADD, the absurd does make sense.

Looking back, I have had many moments of overachieving in my life, but also a lot more moments of underperforming, failure and shame. I never could stay long in the middle ground it seems. Stability seemed to bore me out, i only felt alive in the highs and lows.

Reading all your posts, i often recognize an inner dynamic i share. And in a way it brings comfort and optimism after working through personal issues that brought on the realisation that I may have ADD. ]]>

My Name is Chandler, I'm 20, will be 21 in December :)
I have been suffering from ADD since being diagnosed 4 years ago. Before Medication Treatment for my ADD the symptoms were horrible. My Other diagnosis' are in my signature below as that might help people understand why they were so severe.

I was first prescribed Vyvanse 20 MG, which agitated my pre-existing conditions that are listed in my signature. Vyvanse also caused a 2 week hospital stay. After Vyvanse was Adderall 15 MG, which helped but made me feel like a zombie and also agitated my PTSD. In 2011 I met with a doctor who has a Team that specializes in Mental Health, Cardiology, Chronic Pain, HIV infected Patients, & preventative care. My Doctor prescribed me Methylphenidate 10 MG 3 times daily, 2 weeks later I was on Methylphenidate 20 MG 3 Times Daily. It changed my life. Since Feb 2011 I've been a much more happy and driven person.

I have been browsing your site for at least a year xD lol before deciding to join in April, now I finally am extremely interested in engaging with you guys. Such as posting replies in Threads where people need help with a problem they are having as I might have knowledge on it due to my Healthcare Professional background as well as Someone who suffers from ADD.

- I hope to get to know you guys more and possibly make some friends :)
:thankyou: ADD Forums for proving a platform for people like me, so we have the knowledge to know that we are not alone.

From Amsterdam http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188769&goto=newpost Tue, 07 Nov 2017 10:34:27 GMT Hi everyone,

My name is Monisa and I’m a mother of 3.
I’m from Amsterdam :)

All my life I felt something was wrong I never seemed to finish or accomplish anything. Fear of failure and perfectionism had me all depressed and anxious

If not I would be all over the place with ideas and plans but with as result that I would be jumping from one project to another and end giving up this has been the circle of my life.

My therapist said I would possibly have ADHD or ADD so I’m going to be tested for that in the meanwhile I went online and looked around and I was surprised how all the symptoms were so ME! I was like finally I’m not lazy nor crazy.

I never understood why I couldn’t never finish anything in my life in my early years like school or hold on to jobs and now as adult I still struggle with focus concentration and I avoid a lot in life because of this. ]]>

The Quest Begins... (Colorado) http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188757&goto=newpost Mon, 06 Nov 2017 22:08:20 GMT Hello all --

While trying for the upteenth time to get my scattered life more organized, I found some links that led me to look into undiagnosed ADHD. I'd never considered this as a possibility before, as I grew up in the 80s and only had a rough preconception of what that meant. (One of my closest friends was labeled "hyperactive" and was on medication, whereas I was considerably calmer on the outside but was always hyperactive on the INSIDE; i.e., in my mind.)

While I realize that the diagnosis process can be fraught with problems, I'm hoping to get up the nerve to get properly evaluated so I can figure out some better coping mechanisms besides anxiety-induced procrastination, hyper-perfectionism, and giving in to fascinating deep-dive research projects that can railroad even the most basic tasks.

Looking forward to learning from everyone here,

Frustrated 48 year-old http://www.addforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188739&goto=newpost Sun, 05 Nov 2017 18:30:24 GMT Greetings all,

To be honest, I don't even know where to start.

I've totally wasted most of my life because of my ADHD. I was on meds as an adult for a few years but we lost our health insurance when my wife lost her job with a healthcare company due to her own health issues. Currently I'm the only breadwinner in our house and I'm barely holding it together. My wife has major depression (diagnosed), Borderline Personality Disorder (diagnosed), fibromyalgia (diagnosed), and (we suspect) a thyroid problem. I just got on insurance through my employer for $130/month but cannot afford to insure both of us as it would cost north of $700 a month. I don't make enough money at my current job to be able to afford that kind of premium and also pay for our living expenses (rent, food, utilities, etc.). And of course I make too much money for us to qualify for any state or federal assistance, which is probably a moot point what with the current administration trying to dismantle the Affordable Care health insurance system anyway.

I haven't been on medication for the past two years because until recently I couldn't get any insurance that I could afford for myself. A few years ago I tried to start and build a business of my own and failed miserably, and now owe the IRS and state a bunch of money in back taxes that we have no means to pay. That's causing HUGE pressure for us. This past summer we filed bankruptcy so we have no consumer debt. We have one car, a 15 year-old Toyota Camry (paid off).

It's all I can do to maintain my focus enough to do a good job at my work 5 days a week. When I get home I don't have any mental energy left for anything else except veggie time. I self medicate with alcohol, usually a combo of scotch/bourbon and/or beer. I may be an alcoholic, but not sure. I could be a circumstantial abuser. How does one tell if they are a true alcoholic and not just an over-user (as I understand people with ADHD often are)?

I have so many questions, so many fears, and so many regrets. I have so much to try and fix, and I'm close to 50 years old and don't know if I have the time left to fix things and make life better for my wife and I.

I want to try and rebuild my life/our lives but I'm struggling with where to start.

Anyway, thanks for reading this. ]]>
