Meds and ED

I've looked around but nothing really consistent so I'll bring it up again for updates.

Started Ritalin/Concerta in February. That time I was able to get erections, morning wood. The whole deal. My libido was up. But ritalin/concerta didn't do much therapeutically so I went on Adderall and now I able to get things done but now erections are super rare. My libido is up still. I'm so chill and relaxed that I'm getting checked out cause my body language is so free but can't really get erections or morning woods anymore. Even with effort.

When I was younger I could drink preworkout drinks before the gym and still be easily aroused but NOW, no way.

So my doc wanted me to try IR instead of XR for this week at a lower dose but that doesn't help much with my ADHD. So I stopped taking my afternoon dose since I'm done with work and I'll just deal with the distractions. But still no easy erections. Then on a day off two days ago I woke up at 1230am, took my dose and was composing and mixing my music, to gauge when my libido would be strong and get aroused if I took it really early. STILL, nothing. But after weaning off the meds I started to get a bit anxious and get panic attacks.

So today after taking no meds for a day and half and weaning off slowly, I finally woke up with morning wood and able to get a full on erection. But last time I had a crazy 5 minute panic attack. I didn't know what to do. Never experienced it like that. It was if I killed someone and the police is at my door. Just crazy. But I grounded myself and started saying affirmations and the helped. That was crazy.

So now I'm looking to see other options of meds. I don't want to get into a literature debate with anyone and recite stuff you read online on webmd or rxlist. But from your own personal decision making.

For me, I'm good with energy, I'm more inattentive and not into mundane stuff and adderall helped me focus and do mundane things without resistance.

Was looking into Wellbutrin. I'm not into getting into a conversation about SSRI or reuptake inhibitor and blah blah. Just what did you do to get your ADHD under control and at the same time have reduced to no erection problems other than stop taking your meds. I took Viagra also and from my history this week, I need a good 15+ after taking my first dose of adderall for the viagra to help with the erections. If I wasn't on ADHD meds, Viagra would kick in 30 minutes. As of now I'm just preplanning my day, if I have no plans, I'm not taking any meds and just gonna go out to get laid.

I kinda don't want to stop adderall cause at a low dose, I'm getting my life in order but I don't want to sacrifice my erections either. I've tried adderall and viagra together. Had no issues with breathing or anything and BP and heart rate was normal range for me. But my doc hasn't prescribed me anything yet for ED medication. I hinted at it but he wants me to try IR first. Next visit I'm telling him I need to fine a solution for my ADHD and ED.

Hey ILR, this is OT, but I wanted to point out, that bouncing your dosage around day-to-day may cause issues in addition to rebound effects. Off the top of my head in my case I would expect issues with sleep disturbances, eating/hunger, and treating ADHD symptoms that were treated. I would feel like I was on a roller coaster.

Also, I think treatment of both issues is a perfectly reasonable expectation. GL, -LN

Now, I do not have the equipment for erections but wanted to share based on my own dealings with libido... I have found that an adderall/dexedrine combo works best. I cant really get into dosage because I am on a higher than normal dose but its what helped me find balance.

Oh yes, the rebound and withdraw was crazy. I was preparing for it. I got that openness and neurotic personality traits so I didn't mind the challenge and experiment and wouldn't mind the suffering haha. Had two panic attacks and the first one I took 10mg IR broke it into a 2.5mg and after a short while, I calmed down. The second panic attack I forced myself to endure it. I had my pill bottle open and my phone in my hand to call someone but I recollected and started doing affirmations of how much of a pimp I am. Then I didn't take a pill and didn't call anyone for help. But I never want to go through that again.

Thanks interesting. So two brands of pills in a day? What IR/XR combo are you doing. Not the dose but the delivery system.

ADHD and ED are separate disorders. I wouldn't rely on ADHD meds to help boost libido or to help combat ED.

Certainly, stimulants can decrease blood flow to the peripheral parts of the body, and cause or worsen ED as a result.

The obvious solution, in my eyes, is to ask your doctor to be prescribed both stimulants and an ED med.

I take adderall xr three times a day (20mg each pill) and Dexedrine IR 10mg either 2 at once or 2 times throughout the day.

I knew it. Even with the disclaimer in my first post in not caring about getting replies of medical literature debates and just ideas based on a person's real life decision making. Just one person had to do it. No one ever said in this post that ED and ADHD are the same disorder. No one in this post anyone said they relied on ADHD meds for libido. Nobody asked how stimulants works concerning blood flow. Why did you hijack my thread to satisfy your needs? Trust me I get it. I like to hear my own voice as well. Its empowering.

Are you on ADHD meds and ED meds and was it successful? Real life desicion making suggestions highly appreciated.

Yesterday had left over ritalin IR and that didnt interfere so much with my libido and erections. Its an option to go back But ritalin makes me feel like I'm on medication and I metabolis it quick no matter the dose. I took 54 mg Concerts and I'm off the walls after 3 hours.

Thanks again

Thank you. Ill suggest that to my doctor. Your scheduling is similar to what I want but my doc got me in 3 dosing but I need 4 cause I work 430 am to 5pm. I do 10mg XR at 4am then another 10mg XR at 7 am. Then a 10mg IR or 5 mg IR at lunch and would like another IR a couple hours later.

Thanks for sharing your experience

I'm sorry. Looking back, I agree with you that my post was not helpful. Instead of assuming worst intentions about me, I would ask you to consider other possibilities...I wasn't trying to hijack your thread. I was probably simply distracted (I have ADHD and have only been getting a couple hours of sleep per night lately) and my mind must have conflated your stories with others.

ADHD meds: yes
ED meds: no [too chicken to ask doctor]

Which ADHD meds best control your ADHD symptoms? Stick with that regimen. Then supplement it with an adequate dose of ED pills (you'll probably have to do some trial and error).

My personal experience [since you're asking for it] is that I cope with it by lowering the dose, changing the timing of the medicine, adjusting my partner's expectations, etc. Ideally, the simplest solution would be for me to ask my psych for ED meds. But if my actions were rational, I wouldn't need to being see psych in the first place, right?
