Anyone with combined type?
I have ADHD, Combined type. I know girls are more often thought to be inattentive. I've never met anyone else who has ADHD with hyperactivity and impulsiveness and the attention issues. I mean sometimes I daydream, but I fidget and talk A LOT. Always have.
So if you have this type, could anyone reply. I feel like I'm all alone in this. |
Re: Anyone with combined type?

Re: Anyone with combined type?
There's a couple of Combined type girls at my house.
Me (61 year old gramma) and Katlin (14 year old busy-busy girl). As Kat has gotten older, we see less of the hyperactivity like bouncing her leg but she's still a real chatty cathy. My hyperness has mostly been mental, but when the anxiety gets bad I have trouble sitting still or holding still - tap my fingers and hands, bounce my leg, rock back and forth. Meds have been helpful for both of us. |

Here, here!!!
You are definitely not alone here :) |

Re: Anyone with combined type?
Also combined type and a girl. Something tends to always be moving. I don't talk much normally, but if you get me started and I'm comfortable, I just don't stop.

Re: Anyone with combined type?
At almost 35 (), I'm less impulsive that I was when I was younger. I'd motor-mouth and blurt out the most inappropriate things at times! Yikes! Although, it was what endeared me to my friends  Still though, I'm so happy to have outgrown that :) I was never hyperactive like little boys are hyperactive...just more of a silly spaz.

Re: Anyone with combined type?
Combined here... 40 and counting. My eldest daugher and older sister are C types too...
My hyper is mainly verbal and my mind surging on... I used squash myself and got REALLY depressed trying to behave more typically. I think I have a much better balance going now. I still have trouble not interrupting people before they are finished their sentence (un-medicated). I have this drive to improve, this whirring force inside of me that just pushes me forwards. I can relax for short periods if I've done alot (achieved) or if I'm physically exhausted... But its never long. My brain stacks up with all of this stuff and I just have to do something, just move. I love my tangental thinking, lateral solutions and emotional colour. I love seeing the world differently. I'll never stop sharing that with people, even if they think I'm strange ;) |
Re: Anyone with combined type?
According to Russell Barkley it may be that there's only one type. Many (or most, I don't know) with the diagnose ADD have hyperactivity, but it manifests in ways that can't be seen from the outside.
My hyperactivity has been different at different stages of life. As a child I climbed the walls, as a teen it was only in my fingers (fidgeting with something all the time), in my early twenties it was all inside my head and now att 50+ I'm climbing the walls again (but I just quit smoking, that could be the reason). |
Re: Anyone with combined type?
:Lunacie:
My daughter's name is Katlyn with a Y and not an I :) It is not a common spelling either way. I suspect my baby, (she's 6) has adhd, but I'm waiting through part of first grade here to see how she does in school before I rush her off for diagnosis. How long has she been diagnosed? (If you don't mind me asking) ----------------------------------------------------------------- Anyways: On to the topic... Combined here also! I think I have 5/6 symptoms on both inattentive and hyperactive side 10/12--- Both sides of my adhd types are so intrusive that I take meds, behavior therapy, cognitive behavior, and just therapy for my therapy :giggle: |

She's been correcting people ever since she began talking at about 18 months telling them that her name is NOT Kaitlin. I met a friend online who had a daughter with ADHD, and in talking about my granddaughter the friend suggested she might have ADHD. That's when I began reading about it and realized that was the answer to my lifetime of struggles as well. Katlin was 5 then. She's smart as a whip and does well on tests, and her teachers all said how smart and pleasant she was, so her mom didn't see any need for a dx or meds until she was 10 and simply could not handle homework (doing it or remembering to turn it in). By then her little sister had been tentatively dx w/ Autism, so I guess the resistance was broken. But by then her self esteem was totally in the toilet. She'd hit herself in the head and cry about being so stupid. I do wish we hadn't waited so long. :( |
Re: Anyone with combined type?
I'm combined type! :D
My adhd is more bipolar than anything, sometimes I can't sit still to save my life with thoughts ping ponging everywhere, other times I'm in an irreversible brain fog. But they're never at the same time. |
Re: Anyone with combined type?
I'm combined type but I have none of the impulsiveness and all of the hyperactivity and inattention. I'm 23 and I'm pretty sure that the hyperactivity will never go away. I fidget. I bounce my legs. I dance around my house. I sometimes even twitch when I really feel the need to move. I also chatter on and on when I get in the mood, which is a lot.

me-me-me- look at my posts

Re: Anyone with combined type?
I'm also combined. Speak and eat fast and having a conversation when not medicated is very hard because I'm constantly trying to move on to something else and I get distracted so easily. A glass of wine helps but too much and I become a zombie.
Verbally very impulsive. I had some embarrassing moments because of talking before I thought things through. Was never a "hyperactive" child in the sense of running around raising cane but figited a lot. Had some bad falls or almost falls because I moved too fast without focus. Ballet lessons helped a lot with that. Had trouble with dance sequences though, always took longer than the others to learn them due to working memory problems. Have to consciously make myself slow down. Zone out a lot during lectures and conversations. My anxiety has in a way been a god-send because it's made me more careful of doing and saying things I would later regret. Lx |
