Do you have issues when it comes to delayed consequences over immediate consequences?
I find that I have an issue with that and I'm wondering who else does?
I'm bad when it comes to delayed consequences over if something was a consequence and was immediate. Why is that? |

Well, what you've described is just about the central impairment that people with ADHD seem to have. Executive functioning is in large part about moderating your emotions or behaviour in order to better accomplish your long-term goals. And it's impaired in ADHD...

That makes sense. It's hard to moderate your emotions and behavior when you won't feel the consequence till later down the line.
I'm bad with this. My memory, I can't remember how past consequences effected how I feel. The future, is way out there still. My emotions are always in the present moment, depending on what is happening. |

If its delayed for me, I just can't think about it. Its to far away to grasp what's going on. I rather put it off and see if it gets better on its own. It's just easier not to worry about something not happening at the moment I guess

Yes, hugely. One of my biggest problems. My brain doesn't get delayed consequences. It can understand them, sense them, rationalise them but they won't have the slightest impact.
If someone told me that the world would explode if I didn't do something in the next year I'd wait for 364 days and then do it (in a frenzy, hugely stressed & anxious, going absolutely crazy). But if you told me that you'd be a bit cross if I didn't do it in the next hour, then it's more likely that I actually will do it right away. It's infuriating because I can see that it doesn't make sense and everytime when I'm racing like mad against time to meet a deadline at the last minute, I promise myself that this is the last time and that the next time I will start my work on time. But it never happens. Hasn't even happened once. I guess, it never will. Though I'm still hoping for the impossible. It seems like my brain doesn't really get experience either. :D |

Gratification delay is a terrible problem for me as well. I make a lot of impulse purchases because of it, and I get seriously amped up over starting new projects. It's like a little psychological fix.
Hoarding runs rampant in my family, although I've been able to keep it under control in my own life. I think it's part of our neocortex being only partially functional. Our major decision making seems to get shunted to the amygdala, which isn't really suited for long term processing or filtering out irrelevant details. |
