Temporarily Nuts from Dex Withdrawal - Help??

Long story short: dexedrine prescription ran out on Friday; am ADD so forgot to call my doctor on time for a refill scrip; was planning to go to his office and get it today; forgot it was Rosh Hashanah; forgot he was Jewish. Now I have no meds and am going insane at work.

Does anyone have any good home remedies for withdrawal symptoms? Esp hunger, fatigue, and brain fog? I've tried loading up on caffeine, but it's not working.

I take my prescription as instructed, so I don't go into any kind of drastic withdrawal when it runs out--but what does happen is BEYOND annoying. First, of course, I have brain fog--Seattle-in-March, planes-could-crash-in-this-**** brain fog. Then there's fatigue - slept 8 hours last night and 12 the night before and am still dying for a nap. Finally and worst of all, there's the persistent hunger - no matter how much I eat, I'm still *dying* for food, particularly sweets. There's a big plate of pastries in the office kitchen, and if I don't get that refill from my doctor ASAP, I'm going to gain like 40 pounds this week. HNNNGH

This is only a problem with dexadrine for me. For more than a year, I took Vyvanse for my ADD and loved it - symptoms managed, didn't even need my whole prescription most of the time, and best of all no withdrawal when I wanted to take a break. All of a sudden Vyvanse went from $45 to $300/bottle on my insurance, though, so I had to switch to the much cheaper dexadrine...and when I run out of this stuff, it's miserable. WTF.:umm1:

I had a similiar experience with running out of Dexdedrine a year ago. Miserable!. Right now you have my deepest sympathy.

Unfortunately I can't recall anything makeing it much easier other than getting more Dexedrine :(

Other than your not crashing having run out or taken a break how did Vyvanse compare to Dexedrine?. I'm ADD-PI with SCT ( obviously no formal diagnosis for SCT but descriptions fit like a glove).

Thanks

Vyvanse was like a smooth, daylong saxophone solo of perspicacity. It took a solid 45 minutes to kick in (needed to be digested before it became effective), but man, once it did - 8-10 hours of managed symptoms, no giddiness at the peak, no grouchiness when it wore off. OH, and boy was it an awesome appetite suppressant.

Dexedrine feels like a party drug to me. It's more fun right at the beginning, but it seems as though not enough thought has been put into the side effects.

Wow..glad I'm not alone with these withhdrawal symptoms when off Dexedrine. I also tried drinking lots of coffee to no avail, it only makes me nervous. Try taking 500-2000mg l-tyrosine, I'm taking the n-acetyl version which works a lot better 350mg twice a day with 100mg B-6, it cuts through the fog and is energizing. Doesn't last all day...helps with focus, sociability but not hunger....I know exactly what you mean about craving sweets!! I was begging my husband to buy me a cake this weekend...also ran out of meds, got them today hooray

Being late with your refill sucks and I have dont this before many times. I have just had to suffer through the fatigue and fog and after about 4-5 days I seem to be more functional.

I know what you mean, every 6 months I have to remember to ring my psychiatrist 6 weeks before I want an appointment.
I often forget and have to go a week with no mess and its a nightmare of fatigue, oversleeping binge eating on refined carbs all good stuff.

Personally I think they know I have ADHD so how about they call me:)

I drink a lot of caffeine and have taken caffeine tablets. It usually takes nearly a week for withdrawal symptoms to go I find.

Try and move appointments and responsibilities forward a week, I.e. if you're at university/ college ask for an extension.

I have learnt that the anxiety of asking people to move things/ deadlines forward because your having a rough week is all in my head, I've never had anyone (including university lecturers) say no I've also learnt it better to ask before than apologise after :)
