Do others think that people with ADHD are just crazy?
 

I ask this question because I overheard people talking about it at dinner tonight. There was this group of girls and one said this girl she hung out with was absolutely insane. Just plain old crazy. She then went on to further say "I think that girl has like ADHD or something. Seriously"

Now I don't know if this girl does or not. I don't know who she is. But is that what normal people think? That ADHD makes people insane or crazy? Are they just that ignorant?

honestly, that's how I see myself sometimes :lol:

But I do believe others see us as crazy... off the wall... something like that. I don't know for sure.

I'd say it depends on the person, but I've found that people are surprisingly stupid. Especially when it comes to mental illness/learning disorders.

I totally agree with silver, sometimes I find myself wondering if I am crazy. I don't know where my brain is most of the time.

I agree with the fact that I know it makes me hyper! But I think others think that it's the only component. Do they realize we have a buttload of problems in other areas? Not just activity level?

Nope, all they see is the hyper, unfocused, uncoordinated, always loosing stuff, doodling mess that we are. They don't see anything else.

some people seem to think ADHD=retarded (i dont use that in its derogatory sense/put down term)...some people are like...oh you have adhd but your not like...retarded...how can this be so ? hmmm

I think most people picture ADHD as a bunch of hyper people who act obnoxious and blurt out random crap. :lol: Which isn't so far from the truth.

From the outside looking in, I think most people think it looks fun. Lots of energy, random ideas, keeping an interesting conversation. They just don't really see past that surface where it become an impairment.

Which totally explains why DH liked working with people who had ADHD because work was always fun, but coming home to his ADHD wife was another story :doh:

Thats rhe way i act an am zevi but once the novelty wears off im relegated to a ignored or annoying person that every one seems to dislike.

Aww rebs...I would never dislike you, actin a fool is an act far from just novel...though I get where you coming from though people use me for entertainment and drop me by the wayside when someone oh so mature (aka boring as f**k with a jane/john doe existence comes along), I'd like to throw those douche bags in the trash and kick it at stuff :D

Probably. People think that anything different is weird. It's funny a culture, which is supposedly embracing diversity, believes differences are weird.

I myself thought I was crazy... even as a kid....
