Logic ??????

.....Usually, when I do something .....I do it with a reason .....that hard lesson has been learned .....the problem I STILL run into is that I often get misinterpted because ....apparently, the logic I use doesn't make sense to most people .....

or what seems to be a random jump from point A to point K .....makes sense to me because I have all the steps in my head, but they are unspoken ....and most people can't seem to get how I do that ....

...In my own way, I think that I make sense and am pretty logical, but I bet you could find a lot of people who would take issue with that statement .....

,.....Some people, bless 'em, can jump with me .....and some people understand after I tell them why I did something ....but some folks just look at me as if I have lost my mind .....( and they did this before I was diagnosed too, so it's not just the prejudice against someone with ADHD)

....I wonder if NTers run into that problem ? Do you ?

I run into this problem. At least for me, I think the problem is caused by not explaining myself well enough (as in, not explaining myself completely). Skipping "steps" is certainly one incompleteness. Eventually, others often understand with quite a bit of time and/or further explanation. It certainly doesn't help having to create "steps" from my understanding, as opposed to the other way around (going through the steps to come to an understanding), as mistakes can be made in the process of creating the explanation.

I always have this problem. I get so frustrated when people can't follow me, and ask me clarify or back track. It's so obvious to me how x and y are connected, but it seems like it never is for other people.

yes I have this problem too, I always end up saying "well I know what I mean". I just canīt seem to explain myself or put the steps into sequence, I end up being confused. Iīm sure I sound like a right idiot. And when I replay the conversation in my head (as I always do) I can make perfect sense!!

Me vs NT? That difference was hammered in during college study groups. My approach is wayyyyyyyyy different. I think that is part of the reason that I don't like working with others on projects.

I have the same problem. So many things make perfect sense to me but others just don't get it and I can't seem to explain it to them. A lot of my theories are a bit out there so sometimes I wonder if they are just too narrow minded to follow me. What's more probable though is that either I don't explain myself very well (which I know, I don't) or I'm just completely wrong.

The big problem I have with logic is myself. I can think logically but I can't act on it. It drives me absolutely insane.

The thing is that our logic is intuitive logic. But its very definition it moves in leaps and bounds. S(ensor) based logic is more of a linear predictable process which is easier to follow and has fewer surprises.

Yep!

But it goes both ways.

I misinterpret questions and instructions. Some days I feel like Amelia Bedelia. My way perfect sense to me, but not at all what they meant. :D

Can someone give a specific example of this logic being used in a situation? I think I know what you're talking about but I'm not sure.

Sometimes I explain somthing to someone and walk away thinking that they understood only to findout later that they had a completely different idea..........

Yes, I make big jumps in my thinking process as well. Probably very common in ADHD. Probably because we think too fast or not focuused enough resulting in not observing your own thought process fluently/all the way.

A lot of times I get the solution/answer/conclusion and have to think back how I got to that conclusion.

Good thread, thank you for this.

Uh-huh.
And then those people claim that I'm emotional instead of being logical.
I find some people have missed the balance between emotion and logic.

Anyway, I don't even try to explain very often anymore.
It's just not worth it.

Sometimes trying to use logic with certain types of people (although not everyone, a lot of people do get me.) is like trying to teach a graduate course on quantum physics to a class of 2 year olds.

Re: Logic ??????

My entire life I've believed that even emotions are based on logic. The fact that my emotions don't follow the logic of my thoughts is hugely disturbing.

I still don't think that emotions and reason are two different things but I think there are just so many factors influencing both that it's difficult to see a clear progression from logic to emotion.
