Working Memory Training?

I'm curious whether anyone has found any techniques or products that have produced a noticeable difference in their working memory.

As far as I know there is not a whole lot studied on this and medication seems to work best

I do feel like meds help my working memory! I really struggled with that before.

Brain training apps!

And strategy based gaming seems to help with the impulse control, memory and patience.

Re: Working Memory Training?

Only programs such as N-Back and CogMed produced reliable SHORT-TERM improvements in working memory skills. Unfortunately, there is no evidence working memory programs are suitable as methods of treatment for children with developmental cognitive disorders such as ADHD. :( See Is Working Memory Training Effective?

Re: Working Memory Training?

There was a study done. Dr. Barkley talked about it in one of his lectures. They compared it to working out your muscles. It works but as soon as you stop it goes away after a while, just like your skill in anything else.

Barkley recommends a Nintendo DS and Brain Age.

Re: Working Memory Training?

I've watched Dr. Barkley's presentations and he described working memory treatments such as Cogmed as experimental. Unfortunately, several independent studies since then have been disappointing. I have tried Lumosity ADHD, AttenGo (rip-off) and dual n-back, and there has been no significant improvement with my child in school. Read Cogmed working memory training: Does the evidence support the claims? which include a list of research studies:
Quote:

Abstract

Cogmed working memory training is sold as a tool for improving cognitive abilities, such as attention and reasoning. At present, this program is marketed to schools as a means of improving underperforming students’ scholastic performance, and is also available at clinical practices as a treatment for ADHD. We review research conducted with Cogmed software and highlight several concerns regarding methodology and replicability of findings. We conclude that the claims made by Cogmed are largely unsubstantiated, and recommend that future research place greater emphasis on developing theoretically motivated accounts of working memory training.
