Are you left or right handed?
 
Read a few things about left-handed-ness and possible links to some mental conditions (isn't everything linked to something somewhere by someone? :p).

So just a light-hearted, non-scientific poll on handed-ness and if you like to share what conditions you have also.

I'm left-handed, extremely clumsy with adhd and some other things!

Edit - sorry, forgot to add ambidextrous - if there's any mods out there can you add it please? :rolleyes:

I'm right handed for fine motor skills like writing and drawing. But my left hand is better at things like throwing balls, shooting guns, fighting, etc... I don't think that's really ambidextrous though since they both have different skills. o__o;; I don't even fully understand it.

Nah, you're not at all :) ...in fact it's pretty cool to be ambidextrous!

I broke my left arm and learnt to use my right for some things....but damn it was hard!

The word you're looking for is cross-dominant. When someone uses a certain hand for some skills and the other hand for others, they are considered cross-dominant. Most people can develop some level of cross-dominance through practice, and a lot of people are born that way. People who are cross-dominant can be right or left handed, or ambidextrous. Those terms just mean which hand you use for the majority of tasks, or which one has the most fine motor skill development. So you would be cross-dominant right handed.

This article about ambidexterity/cross-dominance is pretty cool: http://www.mentalfloss.com/blogs/archives/126413 I think this is one of the more interesting things they mentioned, pertinent to ADHD:

getting confused, I think I am cross dominant, I write with my left hand but use a screwdriver with my right and paint walls with my right.

Used to get my hand smacked with a ruler at school for being left handed.

Apparently I'm cross-dominant right-handed. Left hand is better at supportive tasks (holding things steady, changing pages etc)


... I switch hands when I have to do repetitive tasks and am bored. Because otherwise I can't keep up the level of attention necessary to finish the task.
Apparently, most other people go into 'automatic mode' instead and let their thoughts wander.

Autism, ADHD, right-handed. My left hand holds the Wii nun chuck. Ain't good for anything else.
It's good for reorientating my iPad when I play Zaxxon Escape. That is very important.

That would be me exactly. I write, draw etc with my right, but use my left for many other things. Sometimes I will just use my left if its more convenient.

Right handed but I am pretty good with the left hand for most of things too...
