Anyone needing help!
Hello!
I'm Ethan, I'm 18 and just started Uni in Bournemouth, UK. It's great! I have ADHD and have never been medicated. It's obvious I have it, and I'm very proud of it. I've worked with a few children back at home who have ADHD and been told I've had a big impact on how they behave and react to certain situations! I love helping people out and showing them how I maintain a healthy balance and have managed to succeed in getting into uni! I have strong views on ADHD and how it should be 'treated' and these differ dramatically from the 'experts'. BUT, I live with it day in day out and I know what has worked for me and still works for me on a daily basis! If anybody would like any help or advice, I'd love to pass on what I believe to be right, and give you some guidance on how your children may be feeling from the perspective of 'been there, done that'.:D Like I said, need anything, give me a shout! :):cool: Thanks, Ethan :):):):):):):):):):):):):) |

Re: Anyone needing help!
Can you tell us a little bit about your story, when did you realise, or someone realise that something was wrong and what age were you diagnosed. thanks

Re: Anyone needing help!
Hey, and thanks for the welcome!
SquarePeg- I'm 18 and originally from Southampton. My Mum works in a school and has worked with many children with ADHD, she hadn't started this career when I was younger though. I was diagnosed very young, 2-3 I think. My mum has told me many stories of Doctors being overly confused as to why I was such a horrible baby, always screaming and never sleeping! I had numerous operations as they thought I had a hernia, thus making me unable to sleep and in pain- causing the screaming. They found nothing. As time went on, nothing progressed and I became increasingly mean towards my older sister. At this point I was sent to different people in different places, and then I got diagnosed with ADHD. I think I missed out quite a large chunk of tests and stuff in there, but that's relatively unimportant? My mum has always brought me up to understand that I have ADHD, and to embrace it, after all, it makes me different to a very large proportion of people out there! I think this is important as it allowed me to discover what it meant myself, it allowed me to understand the 'disorder' more within my own time and adapt to situations in my own special way! I've had lots and lots of methods to help me with controlling myself. I'd be happy to share, but I'd rather you mentioned specific ideas and situations rather than me just blurting out my life story on a website I found less than 5 hours ago! :) Ethan |

Re: Anyone needing help!
Hi Ethan, my son is 14 and has ADD and my psych. has just diagnosed me with it as well ADD (separate doc).
My daughter cried so much during the first 3 years of year life, rarely sleeping. If she slept she work up screaming and angry. She vomited an awful lot as well. She was so angry but didnīt want a cuddle, changing, water, food, sleep, play, rocking, nothing would soothe her. She is has had a lot of problem at school from about the age of 11 and has failed consistently since then but not before. Iīm wondering now that she also had add. Sounds like you are coping well and have a great mum. ps my sister went to uni in Bournemouth, she loved it there. |
Re: Anyone needing help!
Hey guys!
Thanks for the replies :) Scrambled86- thanks, my mum is great! :) lucky to have somebody so supporting and helpful that is always willing to go the extra mile to help my realise my full potential! SquarePeg- Sounds very similar to me, apart from the surgery side of it of course! I don't want to say anything about diagnosis or anything, as well, I'm not trained! I see myself more as somebody able to advise on how children with ADHD differ from those without it and how we treat and see situations! I'm looking to get involved with some of the local schools down this way, as I did in Southampton! It was such great fun and a real motivator to see my support and advice helping other young people to realise their full potential! And yes, Bournemouth is lovely! :) the uni is great too!:) Speak soon, Ethan :D |
