Discussion about 12 steps

A question about what would be the right place to discuss the 12 steps. We can't discuss it in 'addiction' because the 12 steps contain the words God and higher power, we can't discuss it in meditation and spirituality since: "Please remember that the Meditation and Spirituality section is a place for sharing experiences and practices that have helped you manage your ADHD or other conditions (including addictions)."

So does this mean that this forum has effectively banned 12 steps related discussions?

No, it does not.

As you noted, from the site guidelines:
Quote:

Meditation & Spirituality is a fine place to discuss your personal experiences with 12-Step programs. 12-Step programs are a set of (in some cases, spiritual) practices and beliefs that help some people manage their addictions, and thus fall neatly into this category.

You're free to discuss your own personal experience in a 12-Step program, the role of your Higher Power in your life and recovery as you see it, and the spiritual aspects of participation in a 12-Step program for you.

What it is not appropriate to do there is to proselytize. Avoid making claims about the suitability or efficacy of the program for other people. Avoid making claims about how all who follow this path correctly are guaranteed success. Etc. The thread should be a place to share what has worked for you, not a place to promote 12-Step programs to others or to make generalized claims about efficacy. Posts that proselytize may be edited or removed.

fyi,

Here's a couple of generic comments, which I hope help the subject matter :

1)The use of ANY stimulant for the treatment of an evidenced based diagnosis of ADHD, DECREASES the Risk of a Substance Use Disorder (SUD)

2) There are a number of us in Recovery here. I can't recall that ever being an issue or point of contention

If you keep it in the singular, and dont make other people feel less then for not doing it your way it should be fine. No one, no matter how badly they want to be sober likes having someone else's recovery jammed down their throats.
