Re: Attachment Disorders

Guess I forgot to finish posting in thread. Musta been a long dinner.

--

What I bet I wanted to say was that not all Attachment Disorders (or personality disorders) are 'caused'/influenced by trauma or loss that is 'known' _OR_ that is "intentional".

Traditional notions are that attachment disorders like RAD, etc, result from 'BAD events' (or missed [time dependent] 'GOOD events') -- like e.g. caregivers who wholly lack "capacity" to deal with an infant/child, early life adoption (parental loss), neglect, abuse, multiple caregivers, depressed mom who can't read babies cues, growing up in a substance abusing home, seeing parent treated badly, child is 'not wanted' (parental rejection; mental illness; parent with addiction/immaturity), etc.

--

HOWEVER -- I have seen references in my RAD [reactive attachment disorder] readings to things such as THESE SCENARIOS:

-"preemies who have spent first 2-3 months of life in an incubator" (EX. imagine that you are not held, not breastfed and your only touch is a painful heelstick needle, tubes in the nose/throat, with bright lights 24/7, loud sounds, mechanical caregivers/handlers who keep changing, etc?), or

-kids who go thru "chemo" or other painful/sickening medical procedures (plus the anger that their parent is powerless to help them), or

-very young (preverbal) kids who suffer chronic and severe pain from an undiagnosed ear infection or bladder infection or colic, etc, for a long time.

e.g not all ADs [attachment disorders] are created by 'intentionally inflicted or cruel events'.

-------

My ADD Doc *also* runs a Personality Disorders clinic. He said that there are at least two early VITAL bonding periods for infants and young children, which are thought to be linked to Attachment Disorders and PDs too.

re: sensitive child/caregiver bonding periods
There is One Bonding Period at 18 months. There is a Second Bonding Period at 36 months

(Yes, Britney's kids _are probably_ going to be messed up!)
