My experience dealing with those with substance abuse issues is that there is somebody who in some way enables their bad behavior not realizing an addict will only quit when he/she is ready to quit and detox for good, but unfortunately alcoholism IMO can be one of the worst addictions and there is no social 'stigma' surrounding alcoholism, it's not even considered a disease by many when it is one, also binge drinking is even accepted and encouraged in our culture, this is a multi faceted issue.

Think back to when there was serious public discourse/PSAs on addressing alcoholism in the US? Since the 80's? I can't remember the last time this has been addressed.
