Just left the Dr. - I feel bullied!

Just left my appointment to explain that I don't like the Vyvanse and it's not helping as much as ADDerall used to. He was like..... ITS THE SAME THING! I told him I realized they were both amphetamines but told him about the differences I experienced and he wouldn't hear of it! Everything I said he would act like I didn't know what I was talking about. He even said "Did you go to med school?" All sarcastic.

I said I'm just telling you how I feel. He said you're not telling me how you FEEL, you're just telling me what YOU want! I replied back with, "Ok then I feel....FRUSTRATED! I don't care if it's ADDerall or Concerta or whatever, I just don't want this. And I'm not paying almost $200 dollars a month for something I don't like!"

I'm really not good at verbally expressing myself and I told him that in the beginning. And I usually go along to get along. But he was oh so good with his little quick comebacks from everything I said. I said I'm not trying to challenge your expertise as a doctor then he said that's exactly what you're doing! I was so upset and left crying. It's like he's got a chip on his shoulder about something.

Anyway I just needed to vent on here because I'm really upset and feel horrible right now. There was a lot more said but I don't remember everything right now. He put me on Concerta so we'll see. And upped the dosage because he said he thought it was a dosage issue.

I left with him huffing and puffing while writing the prescription. He said, "Try this and WE"LL see if this is a dosage issue." And I said WE"LL SEE!

I've been going to him for a about three years and never had a problem until now. I want to look for another doctor but I know someone who also had a similar issue with him dealing with ADD. When she tried to go to someone else he blackballed her. And told the other doctor she had a personality disorder.

Wow, this doctor sounds like a self-absorbed nut. I'm sorry you had to go through that. I would have left crying too. Clearly this wasn't your fault, so TRY not to take it personally. I hope the Concerta works out for you.

Me too! Thanks! I felt like he was acting like I was a drug addict or something. I had an old bottle of Adderall in my medicine cabinet from 2005 that I never took. I think if I was like that they would have been gone by now.

I said the Vyvanse gave me some insomnia but I expected it with amphetamines. He was like it doesn't give you insomnia. Uh maybe I should have quoted the side effects one being: trouble sleeping. I always think of things to say too late! Sucks!

Can you write a medical association or something like that? He should be reported. Vyvance is similar but not the same thing. His treatment of you was deplorable.

If the doctor thinks Adderall and Vyvanse are "the same thing", why can't he write you a script for the Adderall then?

I know that they affected my granddaughter very differently. Horrible side effects with Vyvanse but not with Adderall.

I've had doctors and nurses argue with me about side effects, including one allergic reaction that was turning into anaphylactic shock!

Your doctor is an *** and shouldn't be in that line of work. Vyvanse didn't work for me either and Adderall does. A qualified doctor would expect that some people would respond to one and not another despite their similarities. What a joke.

That doctor's behavior was not only deplorable, but unethical, totally out of line ....

Do you live near a big city or one of any size ? .....if you can find another doctor ....do not tell this jerk off.....just talk to the new doc and be sure to mention that you have heard, that your first doc has been known to throw around rash diagnosis when a patient leaves....


get in the first licks and it should help neutalize anything that you first doc might say .....


you are free to seek out another doctor, you are not under contract to this first guy ....


and I urge you to seek out another doctor and do it immediately ....was he the one the one who diagnosed your ADD in the first place ? .....that might casue you the most problem .....but if you have saved some of your old scrip bottles that is a pretty strong indication that you have been diagnosed without bringing him into it .....


Nothing makes me grind my teeth like people in the medical profession who behave like this .....the little napoleons, and you can find them everywhere from doctors to nurses to the pharmacy people ....they are a hissing and a byword ....the first part of a physicians oath is "first, do no harm " ........and the fall out from medical people who behave like this can be monumental.....


.....please please please ....get this bad excuse for a human being out of your life ....you deserve a caring, intelligent, open-minded EDUCATED ( and not by pharmacutical companies) your guy sounds like he gets kickbacks ......


good luck ....and I know it's not easy to have to go and look for a new doctor, but this guy is hurting you ......

( ps, I am a doctors daughter, so I understand their "God " complex.....is is often their downfall as people.....some people simply cannot handle all that power, and eventually it goes to their head, and when that happens, it takes over and most of their ability to do anyone any good goes out of their brains....)

complain to the higer ups while seeking a new doctor. Tell the new doctor straight up what your problems with the old one was. Then to the old one to go f**k himself.

I think you can ask for copies of your medical records and take them yourself to the doctor of your choice. They are your records and you have a right to them even if the office tells you otherwise. I asked my uncle – he’s a doctor and he said they have to give them to you. Your new doctor doesn’t have to have contact with your old doctor. Most are so busy that there would be no reason for him to bother to call your old doctor because you already have given him the medical records. I doubt your new doctor will even ask why you are switching. People switch doctors all the time and “bedside manner” or lack of it is a common reason.

I live in new Orleans suburbs. I've tried researching psychiatrists who specialize in ADHD but not really finding anything. Even looked on chadd website but they don't have any groups in this area.

@ lunacie - love the name! Good logic about "well if they're the same thing". Wish I could have thought of that! Darn

Also I don't think there's anyone I can complain to. It's a couple of dr.s who have a private practice together.
Anyhow...thanks again for the replies and recommendations. Love it here!

I see a psychologist who works with my family practice doctor to prescribe my meds. If I get to a point where I don't need the coaching, I could probably just see my family practice doc. You do not have to limit yourself to psychiatrist.

Im sorry they were rude to you. Gosh all ADHD meds are similar and yet different! Different people respond better to different ones....its just your chemistry its not your fault!

I would recommend that you could / should file a complaint with the American Medical Association..and the State that you live in as the Dr has to have a license there also..
