Aspie101 is on a distinguished road
Here's the deal....

I really need some advice and a plan and I have no one else with experience to do this....I have ADHD, Aspergers and moderate GAD. Medications are in my signature. I see a psychologist and an internist with almost no possibility to see a psychiatrist in this area for a lonnngggg time as let me put it this way...even the psychiatric residents are up to their arms in what is a giant mental health professional shortage around here.

Anyway's I'm aspiring to be a physician and preferably end up working in neuropsychiatry but this ADHD bull**** is getting in the way. I understand chemistry and biology very well and human anatomy is literally like the back of my hand. I already know an extensive amount about medicine and I love every aspect of it, I seriously think my favorite aspect is one thing then I remember another aspect and think wow! I am not really driven by the money though that is of course part of it but I'm not exactly out to find the most high paying specialty.

My main problem is focus followed by motivation, organization and lastly anxiety. I just recently started Adderall so that should help but I'm not exactly in the best position here. Crappy grades from the ADHD have screwed me over so I'm going to a community college then hopefully transferring with time...I need advice on how to kick *** in undergrad and get to medical school and make it through alive and when I mean get to medical school I don't care if it means running through like a champ with a 4.0 or crawling their with every ounce of sanity and whatever is left. My ADHD is not a problem in situations like clinical work, writing reports, etc.

Anyway's I have no trouble with the academic work. The problem is focus and motivation which is starting to get better with the stimulants...I get distracted by kids talking allot and get disorganized easily. Anyways I want some solid advice from anyone with ADHD who has been to college for a good amount of time and found a system. Anyone who gives me advice I will really appreciate it I'm sort of running out of people to talk to....

The problem with trying to get advice like this is that there's not really a "system" or "method" that anyone can suggest to you that will necessarily help you with your problems. I can tell you that focus and motivation are problems for just about everyone, ADHD or not. The only thing you can really do is continue to try new things until you find something that works for you. Don't just continue to use the same methods and do the same things if it's not working. Try something new.

Personally, I "embrace" any problems I have with studying or doing schoolwork. I get distracted and loose focus easily, but I just deal with it and keep a positive attitude without trying to change anything. You might say it's sort-of a reverse-psychology method, but in my opinion, the more you worry about the problems and the more you try to fix them, the worse they affect you.
