Re: Favorite Spiritual Quotes

Hi!

I love the Book of Ecclesiastes. It is my favorite book of the Tanakh (what we Hebrews call what our Christian cousins call the "Old Testament"). It is moody & brooding & has layers and layers of meaning. If I figure out 10% of it in this lifetime, I'll have done very well for myself. My favorite verses are:

"Better is a handful of quietness, than both the hands full of labour and striving after wind." (4:6)

"Be not hasty in your spirit to be angry; for anger rests in the bosom of fools." (7:9)

Then there's & all of Chapter 12.

L'chaim!

Re: Favorite Spiritual Quotes

"The beauty that emerges from woundedness
is a beauty infused with feeling;
a beauty different from the beauty of landscape
and the cold perfect form.

This is a beauty that has suffered its way
through the ache of desolation until the words
or music emerged to equal the hunger
and desperation at its heart.

It must also be said that not all woundedness succeeds
in finding its way through to beauty of form.

Most woundedness remains hidden,
lost inside forgotten silence.

Indeed, in every life
there is some wound that continues to weep secretly,
even after years of attempted healing.

Where woundedness can be refined into beauty
a wonderful transfiguration takes place."

"Find that place which is effortlessly at rest within itself. Be there, be one with that.

Throw everything away, forget about it all! You are learning too much, remembering too much, trying too hard.

Relax a little bit, give life a chance to flow its own way, unassisted by your mind and effort. Stop directing the river’s flow!"

Re: Favorite Spiritual Quotes

"Our egos and shadow consciousness are masters at distracting us from our own inner work because they keep us focused on what others should and should not be doing.

They keep us in judgment, condemnation, opinions and criticism. They keep us in a state of intellectualizing our spirituality instead of LIVING our spirituality.

Keeping ourselves grounded in the present moment, fully anchored in the flow of our inner feelings, will help us "feel" what is going on within US that needs to be addressed.

Mind chatter, blame, projecting our issues onto others is a sure fire indicator that we have fallen off the inner path of salvation & soul transcendence and onto the outer path of illusion, discord, and pain." ~ Sabrina ("How to Raise Your Vibration")

Re: Favorite Spiritual Quotes

"Doubt says that, "I myself would like to know, and unless I know for myself, it is not knowledge. Only my experience is going to be decisive." Doubt is not disbelief. In fact disbelief and belief are exactly the same.

It is easier to say yes, it is easier to say no, because there is nothing you have to do. But to doubt needs guts. To doubt needs courage to remain in the state of not-knowing, and go on questioning everything til the moment you yourself arrive at the reality. When you come to the reality there is no negativity, no positivity. You simply know -- it is your experience."

Re: Favorite Spiritual Quotes

I beg you, to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and to try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language. Don't search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them. And the point is to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer.

~Rainer Maria Rilke, 1903; in Letters to a Young Poet
