Taking meds in evening when partying
Hey,
when I go out, I take my regular D/L-Amphetamine dose to be more confident and to let my anxiety disappear. But unfortunately when I do that, it seems that I have to control myself and I get emotionally blunted. When talking to people I lack some spontaneity and I'm having lots of problems to show a broader range of emotions. Often I feel like an actor and not like me. Music isn't a thing of feeling for me. Also I can't drink any alcohol because of possible amphetamine interactions, which may make it much more difficult for me to socialize because almost everyone else is drinking. How do you handle your meds when going out to party? |

I'd talk to your doc. They'd be better able to talk about interactions and come up with a management plan.

Re: Taking meds in evening when partying
If you're planning on drinking, then don't take them.
They're both diuretics, so they dehydrate the body. Mixing Amphetamine with Alcohol is like double punishment. Alcohol thins the blood vessles while Amphetamine causes blood to be pumped around the body faster. (Not a good combination) I know some people say they mix them without any serious negative side effects, but not everybodies body reacts exactly the same from this combination. It can be completely safe for some people, while being lethal to others. It's hardly worth the risk though. Another thing is that stimulants can make you feel more sober than you really are, cause you to drink far more than you would normally.

Re: Taking meds in evening when partying
man, ur supposed to take EXTRA with alcohol, man, it just makes it all so much better HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH WOOOOOOOOOOOOO j/k
DISCLAIMER: this was a joke and not intended to encourage the misuse or abuse of legal or illegal drugs in any way. alcohol and drugs (legal or illegal) should be used responsibly and under the supervision of a concerned and caring party. do not mix drugs and alcohol...(too much lol) , ok ill stop TRUTH IS: DONT DRINK ALCOHOL, especially if ur taking amphetamine. alcohol is bad for you, amphetamine isnt exactly good for you, mixing them should be avoided totally, and if not at all totally possible, you should either not take amphetamine when you drink or DEFINITELY drink as little as possible if you HAVE to. like come on man.....u take amphetmaines to get less anxious? then u wanna drink to socialize and fit in? pick one or the other and remember kids, DONT DO DRUGS common sense really. dont do it |

Re: Taking meds in evening when partying
I take the meds daily. The doctor says I shouldn't take it in the evening if I don't need them. But I don't know. I generally don't drink alcohol anymore, then If I don't take the meds, I get tired and irritable. For me no alcohol w/o meds seems also a bad combo.
In my earlier days I took methylphenidate with alcohol. That was crazy. I didn't knew that this results in ethylphenidate and in the beginning I didn't even knew that the meds are the reason that I can drink that much. The latter I soon figured out, but the former took some time. Some times I drank big amounts of alcohol for two days without sleeping. It was very wild, it was like if my brain and body had unlimited energy. Drinking and smoking gave more and more energy. Wodka and Energydrinks, it killed me. In this mental state I was on full speed and restrictions were only provocations which had to be broken. Sometimes I intentionally harmed animals and people, harmed myself by reckless behavior or got in trouble with police. I've done some stuff with a gas pistol which ultimate resulted in getting chased by police and then in several days in psychiatry which I voluntarily extended to some weeks to stop the meds. Now I don't wanna drink again, I think I've done enough damage to me and my environment. I'm now very sportsmanlike and have no alcohol problems anymore. But I wanna socialize without alcohol. It seems that beside my meds I need something else to get into mood. Dancing and that stuff doesn't work. I rarely can't feel the music. Sometimes it works but its too difficult to get into that state. I don't know if meds help me in this case, but without it also doesn't work. In my experience the docs are mother****ers which only prevent you from dying and the psychologists have no idea about medications and think ADHD is conspiracy. |

Re: Taking meds in evening when partying
I don't ever have more than one drink a night on meds. My meds have worn off by the time I feel like having a drink, but in that post-med period I will get woozy and dizzy from just one drink. I don't like the feeling that much. If I drink while the meds are still active, it's no fun for a different reason- I can't feel the alcohol at all. I have no interest in binge drinking and wrecking my body just so I can feel a little buzzed. I don't like being drunk, but I do like being a little tipsy.
If I'm planning on going away for the weekend and drinking a bit more than usual, I stop my meds a couple days before. I'm really into beer and I like to go on brewery tours, I plan whole trips around them. It's worth it to me to go off the meds for something like this. I don't drink to get intoxicated or to be more sociable- I hate being smashed, and I have no problem being sociable on my own. I drink because I really like beer and making cocktails, it's a hobby of mine, like wine tasting is for some people. It relaxes me, and it's fun. If you're only drinking to feel more sociable, you might want to stop drinking, and figure out something else for the social anxiety. My suggestion to you is to stick with a low alcohol beer, and drink it slowly over the night. I see you're in Germany, do you like Radler? You could try that (if you're friends don't make fun of you for it ) Always alternate drinks with water. Have one drink, drink it slowly, have a glass of water, and then have one more drink. |

Re: Taking meds in evening when partying
My doctor told me I can have one cocktail or beer. I've only been on very low doses of adderal and dextroamphetamine since they're new Meds for me. I did make me perceive that I fit in better. Again I'm on 5 mg adderal 2-3 daily so not much. The Meds do decrease my conversational anxiety as I am getting used to socializing for the first time. Before I was always the sporty friend....the friend that would hike up a mountain with you or bike with you but was not the social friend for hanging out at someone's house.... Cause I didn't have much to say since I had learned from past experience that I always asked people the same basic questions when we got together.... Not conducive to forming strong relationships. So I was just always the quiet wallflower too scared to embarrass myself by asking people about they're lives.
