Re: youre too smart to have adhd

Do you need a high IQ to understand this? Or just ADHD meds?

Anyway, I don't have a high IQ so trouble me does this article not.

Anybody who insists that can't be very bright themselves, if you ask me.

That's kind of like the people who assume that children with high IQs don't need parental or teacher guidance, or education that is tailored to their needs/learning style.

I'm sure having a high IQ does mitigate the affects of ADHD in some areas, to some extent, for some people. But you're right that it does often delay the diagnosis. I'm certain that was the case with me.

I don't know how it would be indicative of how intelligent someone is. It seems to me that ego does not correlate directly or inversely with intelligence at all.

I suspect it has more to do with both finding some coping strategies that work for them and a degree of universalizing their experiences to others.

I don't think it mitigates. The problem is that no matter how intelligent you are, the ability to implement and sustain coping strategies requires executive function.

Re: youre too smart to have adhd

If it had said otherwise, I would have questioned the validity of the test.
After struggling through life for many years I was rather surprised at the results of my first IQ test which said I really wasn't dumb. So then I spent another 45 years trying to figure out why I could never accomplish anything.
Of course the higher IQ doesn't help much except to be knowledgable about the things you shoul do but don't.
