could a lost prescription be reissued

It looks like I lost one of my adderall prescriptions for next month. I can't find it anywhere. Could the doctor cancel this one and issue a new one? It hasn't been filled because it says dispense after 7/5/12

Re: could a lost prescription be reissued

not likely...My wife accidentally threw away my vyvanse script when cleaning out one of our vehicles and, even though I have a great pteint/doc relationship with my doc, they just couldn't do it because of how regulated the prescriptions are...It's obviously traceable to see if you've used your insurance to buy it already that month, and by other means..the pharmacy even called to back me up...but alas, no can do

good luck though, your doc could be different

Re: could a lost prescription be reissued

You would probably have a hard time getting your doctor to do this.

I get that they do it so that they don't have to see you every month, but I kind of don't think it's the best idea for doctors to hand post-dated prescriptions for future months to somebody with ADHD. I lost everything (except my prescription) that they handed me at the doctor's office when I went in May, including the requisition for my lab work and the appointment sheet for my date with the shrink. This caused me to have to call the shrink's office to find out what time the appointment was, and to postpone getting the blood work done in hopes that the requisition paper would turn up. Even that I finally ended up going in blind to, taking advantage of a program at a local hospital that offers a comprehensive bloodwork package for a low out-of-pocket price and just hoped that all the things I was supposed to have tested were included.

We did try the postdated script thing one or two times, but what the doctor did was to mail the postdated scripts to the pharmacy rather than send them home with me. Of course I generally tend to be obsessively careful when it comes to not losing my Adderall script or bottle, but still. We DO tend to lose stuff. Handing a stack of important prescriptions to somebody for whom losing important things is an actual symptom of their disorder....seems to be tempting fate.

Good Luck.

My Doc is cool but thats an absolute no-no in her book. You lose it TS. Pretty great about everything else. I can understand why. The government is a pain in the rear about CII stim meds.

Re: could a lost prescription be reissued

Do most people get 3 separate 30 day scripts for their meds? My doctor always just does one month at a time. I just have to call a few days in advance then go by and pick it up. I would misplace them otherwise.

Hope your doctor is able to help you out.

Never happened to me yet (knock wood), but my doctor warned me when we began that if I lose the scrip, or the medication, he would will feel sorry for me but will not replace either, ever. I am not sure it would be illegal to do so, per se, but both doctor and patient would be in a world of trouble if somehow both prescriptions got filled.

I wish you the best of luck in finding the original script, and in finding a solution to avoid losing them in the future. Some doctors, I've heard, can submit a prescription electronically directly to a pharmacy. Having the doctor mail it
directly may be a good option if the doctor is willing to do it, and if you feel that the risk if it being lost in the mail is less than the risk of losing it yourself.

Re: could a lost prescription be reissued

Yeah, when prescribing meds for people with ADD, seems like most docs know the drill. Leave a new script at the front office instead of giving us pieces of paper to hold onto for a month or two. I guess au ADDers are known to lose stuff.

Re: could a lost prescription be reissued

My doctor is pretty cautious and once when my script(that she mails to me) got lost for 2 weeks in the mail, she issued a new one but she says she would not be able to do that more then once. Once the older script showed up I returned it to her so I would be able to maintain thats trust. If its a chonic problem most docs will assume you are abusing your meds but some of them will do it, it depends IMO how long of a relationship youve had with your doctor.
