Provigil (modifinil) vs Nuvigil, plus info and questions about Nuvigil

Background info on Nuvigil and Provigil:
Cephalon has created Nuvigil, and it is pretty similar to Provigil. The reason they created it, I read, is because other Pharmaceutical companies will soon manufacture there own versions of modifinil, and will sell them at competitive prices. So now Cephlon charges outrageous prices for Modifinil because they have a monopoly on the drug and it is a very effective medication. So I heard they have changed their formula a little bit and created Nuvigil and sell it at a quarter of the price that they sell Modifinil to hopefully get people to switch from Modifinil to Nuvigil, so they can still make a lot of money on Nuvigil when the price of Provigil drops due to competition... so I've heard.

However, I have read on another forum, that there is a difference between the two, and some people have good experiences with Provigil and not Nuvigil, and other people have the opposite experience.

Now I am pretty desperate to try one of these medications, so I may try Nuvigil because it is much cheaper. If you give Cephalon some of your information on their website, they say you can print out a coupon that lets you try a 30 day supply for free and a card that will get you $50 off each Nuvigil purchase you make. However, at the bottom it says "limitations apply"

questions for addforums:
1. Has anyone tried Nuvigil?
2. What was your experience?
3. How was it compared to Provigil (Modifinil)?
4. Does anyone know what they mean by "limitations apply" and has anyone actually received the 30 day supply for free? Are their any strings attached?

My strategy:
I am hoping to use Nuvigil while it is cheaper than Modifinil, and then change to Modifinil when other companies start making and selling it for a cheaper price.
one more question:
Does anyone know if there are withdrawal symptoms when you stop Nuvigil or Modifinil?

My opinion of Cephron: Now I understand and agree that a company that creates a revolutionary medication should be able to profit from it. However, many people need this medication to function and Cephron is taking advantage of them. One person with chronic fatigue symptom was paying $400 a month ($4800/year) for Modifinil. At that price there are probably many people suffering who will have to go on suffering because they can't afford the astronomical price Cephron is charging. It is my opinon that that is wrong.

Wow, no one's tried Nuvigil. Well I am going to talk with my Pdoc tomorrow and try the free 30 day sample and I'll let you know how it goes. By the way I have the symptoms of SCT, ADD-PI, Depression, anxiety, minor bipolar so I'll let you know how it effects those symptoms.

Alright, I reluctantly gave Cephlon my info on their website, printed out a sheet of paper and a coupon card, and went to my Pdoc and got a prescription. I then went to CVS and got 30 150 mg pills for free. That's about $430 worth of pills for free, and since I am going to break each 150 mg into three 50 mg pills, this should last me 3 months. I will keep you posted on my experience when I try it.

By the way, I read the terms of agreement when I gave Cephlaon my email adress, phone number... they said they put a cookie on your computer to track your activity and they may share your information with other groups, so I do not feel really comfortable about that. I do not trust Cephalon AT ALL. However I was willing to do that to receive $430 worth of pills because I am somewhat desperate. SO REMEMBER, if you are going to give them your info to get 30 free pills, you are taking a risk.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Provigilthing basic about provigil:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuvigil#See_also

And here is some about nugvil:

This point is in the info as well;

Armodafinil is an enantiopure drug consisting of just the active (−)-(R)-enantiomer of the racemic drug modafinil (Provigil).

If I am understanding this correctly Nuvigl contains only part of the chemicals of provigil. My husband tried Nuvigil and suffered way to much PNS stimulation and went back to the provigil. Ir recently went generic and our copay is now 5$ instead of the 100$ it was before.

Has he noticed a difference between the generic and brand name version?

Re: Provigil (modifinil) vs Nuvigil, plus info and questions about Nuvigil

Sarahsweets, why do you say peripheral nervous system stimulation, as opposed to CNS stimulation or just stimulation? How, specifically, did Nuvigil effect him?
Also, what condition does he have? Only a few conditions are approved for Modifinil. ADHD is not one of them. My insurance won't cover it and it can cost $400 a bottle.
Modifinil went generic, but unfortunately, the company that makes the generic bought Cephalon, so now basically one company makes the original and the generic. It's just some ridiculous game they're playing to make billions of dollars.
