Adderall Sleepiness?

I have only started my perception in the last few weeks. I take 1 15MG pill in the morning, and another one in the afternoon.

Before finally taking Adderall for the first time, I have read quite a bit of discussions and information online regarding the pill. As a result, I had several anticipations of what to look for. Truth be told, it has surpassed everything I originally imagined it might do.

Now for my question. I have noticed that many people report insomnia, or lack of sleepiness, etc, while on Adderall. However, I have noticed t
he very opposite in my case. I feel the effect very much, am focused for hours, but I fall asleep without a hitch while taking it, and wake up in the morning surging with energy and focus, still feeling its effects.

As an experiment, I took 15mg at midnight, and fell asleep as soon as i finished what ever work i had an hour or so later.

I have noticed that "deep sleep" appears as a potential side effect, does any one else have such experience or thoughts on the matter?

Re: Adderall Sleepiness?

I am new to Adderall as well, 30mg - 10XR in the morning, and 2, 10IR booster in the afternoon, as needed.

I have noticed similar effects as you, but not exactly. I feel much more energized throughout the day, but also haven't had any issues with sleep. A few times, I was able to take a nap with no problems during the day.

To me, it seems the best of both worlds. Energy during the day, and good sleep at night. I don't wake up feeling energized, though.

I take the same dose as you and use the same method taking it. For me, it wrecks havoc on getting to sleep. I just don't get sleepy in the late evening as I used to before Adderall. It may be the same drug but we're all different physically and mentally and how the med's side-effects affect us -- and that's the difference I believe. I also take Ativan for anxiety issues. Sometimes the med makes me sleepy-tired and sometimes it doesn't. It still works the same regardless but the side-effect isn't consistent. Whatever.

Re: Adderall Sleepiness?

Oh my gosh - I thought I was alone in this!
I can take my Adrl XR 30 and go right back to sleep an hour or so later. Then, after a 45-minute (sometimes longer) "nap", I'm ready to go for the day. That is, of course, when I don't have any particular schedule to go by on that day...which means this only usually gets to happen on Sundays.
Still, it always seemed odd to me that I would be able to konk right back out again after taking a stimulant medication. And no, it doesn't effect my ability to sleep at night, either. What DOES effect my ability to get to bed is Netflix...

We ingest Adderall the same and have the same dosage. No two people will have an identical clinical response when taking the same medicine . For example, Adderall affects my sleep , keeping me awake in the early evening when I normally would be very sleepy.

Ativan is a benzo that I take for anxiety. Benzos have the tendency to cause drowsiness . I cleaned your diction, syntax, and style for the hell of it.

Re: Adderall Sleepiness?

Personally, I noticed more calming effects from taking straight Dexedrine than Adderall, but to be honest I think it has more to do with the dose.

Specifically, too little at-a-time had the sedative effect for me. When I took the Dexedrine, I was taking the 10mg spansules, one at a time, which release gradually. I am fairly large myself at 6' and about 260 lbs. I believe that the gradually-released amount was insufficient and thus acting as a sedative.

The questions I'd ask would be: to those that get sleepy, how large are you with relation to your dose? I ask this because were there a correlation between larger body mass-to-dose ratio with those that tend to get sleepy than with those that have trouble sleeping, then the solution may be easier to figure out.

Re: Adderall Sleepiness?

Some people actually do experience improved sleep on Adderall - even sleeping hard right after they take it. From what I can gather a lot of times these tend to be the folks who have issues with their thoughts keeping them awake at night. The Adderall turns this off and helps them sleep.

Did I read somewhere here once about a child with ADHD that would be given Mountain Dew before bed because it made him sleep? Or did I dream that, LOL.

Re: Adderall Sleepiness?

Adderall causes me to be sleepy while i am on it. When it wears off, I do become rather sleepy though. BUT a few hours later, I am WIDE AWAKE. insomnia is a *****.

.
This was the case for me.

My understanding is that for those of us who truly have ADHD, Adderall has the paradoxial affect. meaning it totally calms your racing mind down and feeling sleepy isn't that unusual.

For those that don't have ADHD, they are popping them to take exams or whatever when they need to stay up all night.

One of the biggest reasons I decided to finally address my ADHD and go on meds was that my sleep was awful because of a racing mind that wouldn't shut up at night and that has subsided

I have a 'chatty-brain'. That's what p-doc says...I take 20mg adderall and crash very hard. Sleep stinks without, and ideas would dance in my head. . I thought I was bipolar 2, but no. I could have a minuscule amount of mood disorder. I've never been manic(awake 3 days) or hospitalized involuntarily. I tried every other medicine under the sun before stimulants. I don't believe adults fit a cookie cutter dx of add or bipolar 2; I think by the time one is an adult, their add often is accompanied with an anxiety disorder, substance abuse, or mood disorder. Of course, the severity of symptoms is as different as the individual. This area of adult add is in the dark ages. More-so than other areas, for adults require larger doses than children (usually).

This happens to me... I've been known to drink a root beer and take a sweet little nap right after... sometimes before I can finish the root beer I guess it just has the right amount of caffeine to put me to sleep
