Sixty mg. for narcolepsy and 40 mg for ADHD are usually cited but I haven't seen the academic literature that lists them as optimal doses, so they're probably based on prescribing guidelines (and one Canadian psychiatric board report I read a while back).

More often than not, a max dose is what your doctor is comfortable prescribing. Some will write for more, some less.

As long as you take XR in the morning, you shouldn't suffer from insomnia.

me~110 lbs @ 60mg Adderall IR generic (2xday/30mg), over 4yrs.

BP seemed to be going up but it was actually just my anemia again, increased iron suppl, and BP been at low side of normal range & steady

I take 60mg/day(2x30 Adderall XR) first thing in the AM(6:00AM - 9:00AM). I've discussed with my doctor, who has been a specialist in adult ADD for decades. He said studys show no benefits from taking more than 60mg. I've taken up to 100 a day with no sign of it working any better than 60mg.

This past Thursday I had my pdoc visit.
I go every other month, she pre-writes next month's script.
The visit was better than usual because I was early (had another appointment somewhere earlier and had one after her so I was on the road and ahead of schedule. )
She's usually running late but that day she wasn't.
I had my 12 yr old daughter with me.
All seemed like a dream, lol.
Especially, when she was asking me how's things and I tell her good but I sometimes increase the Med by a half each dose.
So, it's 30mg and 30 mg daily.
That's OK she says and tells me she will increase the script to read 20 mg 3 x's a day, but that I can do 30 & 30.
OK. That was all well and good, I thought.
I even made an extra effort not to talk while she's writing, so there's less reason for error.
She gave me 2 scripts for July and August .
I had time to go to pharmacy before dentist appointment.
While I was at the dentist waiting, I looked at my filled script and it was for.....
RITALIN

so I'm like OK I have had it before...I suppose I can go a month...I rescheduled a month earlier to August instead of September. I knew she was out Monday so I emailed her Tuesday.
I wanted to see if I had to go the month or get a change for new script.
She says I have been getting ritalin since November. I wrote back that I had adderall for April, May, June.
SO...long story short....I can make another appointment before August.... lol

I'm prescribed 180mg daily. 30mg XR's 3x daily and 30mg IR's 3x daily. I've been prescribed to that amount for about 4 or 5 years now. I think I'm pretty much immune to it by now. I can take a 30mg XR at 8pm and still fall asleep by midnight if I want to. Adderall for me is weird, if I'm busy doing something it can keep me going for hours, I'm like the Energizer Bunny, but if I'm not up and moving it really has no speedy effect on me.

I just started Adderall about 3 weeks ago. Pdoc started me off with 10mg XR once a day. Now on my third week, I am at 20mg two times a day.

Got back to my pdoc after she gave me wrong script(ritalin instead of adderall)
She gave me 20mg 3x's a day of adderall (regular release) now
but she said I can do 30mg & 30mg
and that was the typical max dose.
Interesting to see how others are doing and that they
have had success over the years.

Oh my, I'm on 60mg of Adderall XR and it doesn't feel like a terribly high dose to me. I was under the impression that 40mg was the maximum recconended dose for Dexedrine. I think Adderall's is quite a bit higher.

yeah it doesn't seem like much (60mg)
Some folks on here have been on higher for a long time
So far it's (60mg) is just right for me
It lasts so much longer than Ritalin and is more calming
also smoother wear off
