Pharmacy refused to fill new script/dosage increase?

Hi everyone. I'm a little confused as I saw my pdoc today and he gave me a new script for 20mg adderall ir 2 month supply. My previous script was written and filled beginning of june for 10mg ir's also a 2 month supply. I went to the pharmacy and the lady first said she didnt have enough to fill it. I was like ok maybe i can try elsewhere, but then she said oh you have to wait a full 60 days before you can fill it. Is that correct? It was a different dose so im confused.

Yeah, you have to wait until the amount you were already prescribed for 60 days has elapsed. You should still have your medication so continue with that until its finished and then legally they may fill your next script.

It`s just a matter of law.

I was recenly in a similar situation. I was on 36mg of concerta but was moved up to 72mg (2 36mg pills) with my doctors permission and of course ran out of my 36mg 30 day script early.

I got a new script of 60 36mg pills and had a similar issue when i took it to the pharmacy. The pharmacy tech thought I was a drug seeker since I had just filled a script for 30 36mg pills two weeks before and was trying to get 60 pills again. I talked to the pharmacist and explained my situation and she was extremely helpful (she even dealt with my insurance company since they denied my claim)

it is lawful that your original dose did not benefit you so that is why you are trying new dose.

In reality the doctor wont write the same medication 2 months and the diffrence in the dose. Because He will eaither tell you to break or combine your original tablets so that you take the new dose.

If it is a diffrent doctor writing prescription for the Same CII medication then you name will be flagged in the new nationawide controlled drugs monitoring network (it is very new and states now are able to communicate with each other sharing the same patient data base. To prevent doctor shopping in the same state or in two states or more.

When a flag pops up in their system they wil contact all your the pharmacies that you filled a controlled drug and contact all your doctors. And ask them about the other doctors that someone is seeing for the same Class drugs (for example adderall from one doctor and ritalin from another.

Depending on the individual state you might get black listed and maybe nationwide. In this case you still can fill your adderall medication but it will be a very light dose and you will get it everyweek instead of everymonth and under more strict supervision will you be treated like a criminal who need ahddh meds so urgently that they kept supplying you with the dose that your health might suffer greatly if you dont take any stimulants.

Most likley your original doctors will drop you or never trust you. And most likely the doctor will switch you to an alternative to stims like straterra or Wellbutrin SR.

By the way, all controlled drugs prescriptions are valid only for one month.
So in two months your doctor has to write you a new prescription.

It was the same doctor. He just increased my dose and prescribed a different mg pill. I'll probably call him tomorrow and ask for advice.

Anytime I have had a change in dosage, the pharmacy will fill the med regardless of when it was previously filled.

Well its been 49 days exactly since the first one was filled. They didnt have enough to fill the new one anyway would it be weird to have it filled elsewhere? If I start my new dose I would run out early. I hate these hoops you have to jump through.

Stick it to the pharmacy. You have a new script with new dosage from the same doctor. None of their business to throw personal ethics on you. Now, whether insurance will cover it is another story.

Exactly. If you are going to run out of your meds you need to be your own advocate. I'm sure the pharmacy can order more meds,perhaps fill a partial script, etc.

In my case the pharmacist was must more helpful and than the pharmacy tech who was very judgmental.

You were given a new Rx because the first was not doing the job. You are not in this alone. Your doctor can help is your ally here. A call from your doctor to the pharmacy explaining the new Rx should resolve the problem. The same is true for the insurance coverage.

Would I have any trouble goint to a different pharmacy? They said it would take a week to get more in anyway. Thanks for all the advice it helps!

You won't get in trouble by going to a different pharmacy. Happens all the time. What will raise red flags is if you go to multiple pharmacies with scripts from multiple doctors. If you are using insurance they will catch on after a couple of months. If your state uses a prescription monitoring program then any doctor or pharmacy can lookup your information at will and decide whether or not to fill it and decide whether to call law enforcement.

I live in California and I don't think that's correct. Could you cite the law you're referring to?
