I would absolutely write a letter to the state medical board and report that this doctor refused

to give you a second opinion and basically called you a drug seeker.

He needs to have this on his record. The more complaints that are made about his ethics,

the less chance he'll have to really mess up a patient.

I was pleased with the doctor we saw at KU Med School when my granddaughter was

diagnosed (autism). Have you seen one of the doctors there?

Didn't the office you've been going to provide a referral? They certainly should have.
No referral. I've been over there fighting for my med records to take to a new doctor. That's a whole other post.

With my substance abuse history, I've been very scared and cautious pursuing treatment. I don't want to generate a bad name for myself or even worse get banned from further treatment.
(I heard, might be wrong, but they can put a block on your name from prescriptions. Like filling at pharmacy's)

The doctors here all seem to know one another. I don't want to get a reputation for doctor shopping and pill popping. A normal adhd person -that sounded funny-
could go and write those letters and wreak havoc on those *** holes.

My mistakes in the past prevent me from doing that. All they see is some stereo type junkie trying to come by her habit honestly.

They don't want to help and bringing attention to it makes me nervous. They look into my jaded past and nothing I say means diddly.

I hate that that's true. It's followed me around for a lot of years.
Oh, what I wouldn't do to go back and change it.

But I'm up for suggestions.

Thanks.

You know, talk therapy is not always entirely successful if you need medications to be able to act on the therapist's advice, but finding a therapist might be a good move in your case. Not only will it be evidence that you're seeking treatment, not drugs, but the therapist can also be a good ally in trying to get appropriate attention from a psychiatrist (and maybe direct you to some financial assistance, as well.) You might want to consider doing that.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately that kind of attitude isn't uncommon amongst doctors. It's really sad to me that you have to fear judgement when all you're trying to do is get help.

I just wanted to tell you that you did the right things... Being honest and disclosing your past medical history is absolutely the right way to go and there are good doctors out there who will listen. Almost every state has a controlled substance reporting program and if you're in one of those states, any doctor can verify that you aren't flagged for prescription abuse. I know it's hard but keep trying and don't be afraid to explain the reason why you didn't stay with this jerk to the next doctor you see.

*** eta: again I don't know the specific laws of your state but they usually can't block your prescriptions without proof of serious prescription abuse. You might try researching your states controlled substances reporting law. Knowledge is power

One more thing... You should NEVER have to fight for your medical records. I'm assuming you're in the US, in which case they are required by law (barring a few very extreme circumstances) to provide your records within 30 days of your request (60 if they can provide a legitimate reason for the delay). Failure to do so is subject to disciplinary actions, which may include fines and/or criminal charges. If they give you a hard time I recommend asking when the last time they had their HIPAA refresher course was.

DEFINITELY report this guy. He has no business practicing anything to do with this disorder. He says he prescribes to children routinely? Should ANYBODY have their CHILDREN treated by this tool? I think not.

Re: Had the most INSANE appointment. Super discouraged.

I figured out what to do!

As most of you can see I live in the US midwesternish.

There's a University, (not KU) but similar and they have a board of Psychologists and Psychiatrists and Neurologists. They do full blown Mental health screenings and evaluations. Not just Adhd.

So I signed my behind up. It's like $1000, but I'll spend that much doctor shopping.

2 days of testing. It also tests for LDs and Autism.

Got the custody ****ers to agree to a full disclosure, but whatever this test says, they leave me the f along about how I treat it.

I'm not concerned about this test. At all.

Then this board, gives you 20 referrals and those doctors MUST treat me regardless. It's their agreement with the University/Board of Doctors.

Plus discounted therapy and medicine.

And when I get there, I'm going to give them the name of the crappy docs I went to see. They said they will investigate and/or reprimand those doctors for me!!!!!

I already gave them the doctor I spoke of in my OP. So-he's getting his now.

Booooo-yea.

Thank goodness.

Re: Had the most INSANE appointment. Super discouraged.

You should seriously consider reporting this guy. This is not only medically unethical, it's morally unethical. His job is to consider all aspects of the patient, not just treat all patients the way he wants to because of his own dogma about drugs. Even at that, he could have just informed you in a more respectful and polite manner.
