Re: Things you can't do because of ADHD
Things I can't do while unmedicated? XD remember to actually take my medication.
But yeah, it's mostly memory problems. My mom will say something, I'm like ok I get the picture, get annoyed when she repeats herself to be sure I heard or that I understand, then when the time comes to do the thing she asked, I forget about it and she comes home and is super disappointed. And so am I. Otherwise, I'm not really all that impulsive and I can try to work through my focus issues (but it's still a struggle without my meds.) Oh, and I'm super unmotivated even while on my Adderall (which I don't take everyday,) but things get a little better I guess. I just want to care... Is that so hard to do? I love music, and never had trouble with learning clarinet. I did struggle to learn piano, gave up on guitar, and am sort of trying to pick up the bassoon. But it really wasn't meant to be played by someone with tiny hands like mine =P. my fingers barely cover the holes. I suck at reading music, but play just about any note and I can name it. I've learned several songs from movies after listening to their scores a few times; i can take requests on my clarinet if I'm given two or three minutes to figure out the notes. I think I'd be a lot more skilled if I would actually practice instead of picking up my instruments a few times a year... I probably will get better in college where I have to practice to stay in the band.

I'm sure your book is written better. You actually had a publisher. I'm once again having a lot of doubts about my book.

Re: Things you can't do because of ADHD
Mostly related to driving:
- Can't drive in any country that drives on the left. - Can't turn left onto a busy 4+ lane road from a stop sign. - Can't make a right turn on red when I see a pedestrian waiting at the intersection. |

Re: Things you can't do because of ADHD
Remember to do things on time. I always have a knack of forgetting everything that's very important to do and then realize that I forgot about it later on.
I think to myself "F**k!! Why do I keep forgetting?!"

Re: Things you can't do because of ADHD
Anything I absolutely can't do? Not much. But here are things I do WAY better when medicated:
Find anything Have a pressurized conversation My job (most of the time) Play with my 2 year old when she's being really fidgety and flighty Control my anxiety Ignore my internal voices that tell me I suck

Re: Things you can't do because of ADHD
The thing is, most of these posts are personal 'how medication helps me do xyz' and it's different for everyone.
Some specifying their math is better and quicker off medication, some stating it's better on. Some saying they are more creative off it, some saying they feel more creative on it because they can properly convey their thoughts. For that reason, it's almost a misleading topic name. It's highlighting people's different strengths and weaknesses and how medication helps in different ways for different people. Doesn't seem to be a universal 'because I have adhd I can't do xyz'. |
