My Adderall and working out?
I was wondering what you guys think about this. I was working out with my medication, and wow, was it a good workout. It gave me the energy and focus to push through my sets and I'm really sore right now. I do stay very hydrated. Has anyone tried this? Just any opinions and advice would help. (:

Re: My Adderall and working out?
While Adderall (or any amphetamine/similar stimulant) can "improve" your workouts, there are a couple things to be aware of:
1) Doing any kind of aggressive exercise on a stimulant can be of some concern. It increases your heart rate and one of the main warnings for adderall is for people with heart disease, specifically hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCOM). There is an increased risk for sudden cardiac death. HCOM is rare and your doctor should have asked about any family history relating to cardiac disease before starting you on adderall. For the general population there isn't much of an increased risk unless you're taking more than you should be. I don't take it within 2 hours or so of working out just to be safe. 2) Using amphetamines is known to cause weight-loss. So if you're trying to bulk up, it's going to be harder. For cardio, stimulants in general can increased your endurance. I just use caffeine when I need that extra push. That being said, you're taking something that causes an increase in norepinephrine which is going to cause your body to have increased metabolic demands. Increased metabolic demand will more likely cause less nutrients to be available to build muscle. The basic principal of weight-lifting is to push your muscles to fatigue. So in my opinion, taking something that increases how much you have to do to reach fatigue doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I wouldn't worry about working out on adderall as long as you're smart about it and keep an eye on your heart rate. Again, I don't take it just to work out but there are times when my work outs overlap with the times where I'll be experiencing the effects of adderall and I haven't experienced any negative effects. If you're staying hydrated and listening to your body you should be okay. |

Re: My Adderall and working out?
I used to work out on it all the time. It helped tremendously with stamina and focus and especially consistency.

Re: My Adderall and working out?
I went on a run ONCE while still on my initial dose (10mg xr, the lowest I've been on). It was HORRIBLE! Heart rate took an hour to decrease, my face was red--very unusual for me, and I got very winded. I now take it after my runs, and it works just fine!

Re: My Adderall and working out?
What kind of workout are you doing?
Most pre-workouts are stimulants (like Jack3d with DMAA) and they are great for weight lifting and other anaerobic workouts. Adderall is a stimulant and you'll get a similar effect. You'll be in the zone, have lots of energy, and feel great.

Re: My Adderall and working out?
I have no issues working out while on my meds, sweating in the gym actually helps me limit the sweating side effect outside of the gym.
