Re: Caring about your appearance
Wow..... this thread spoke volumes to me. I dont care at all about my appearance. I moved to an island just so I could wear casual clothes all day long. I rarely do my hair..... and I wear just the basics for make-up. WOW.... all of these things associated with ADHD I'm just finding out. I was recently diagnosed... and the stuff I keep reading about fits me to a T.
Kinda sad. I always just thought it was who I was ... |

Re: Caring about your appearance
Looking neat and professional would be nice. I feel like I always look like a scruff. I'm incapable of wearing anything uncomfortable.

Re: Caring about your appearance
you could probably find tops with soft fabrics
like a soft acrylic sweater and a completely elastic waist cotton blend skirt (but then it's summer there isn't it...?) most of things I wear to work are almost as comfortable as pyjamas! |

Re: Caring about your appearance
I rarely go anywhere without makeup on.
I sort of dislike to were high heels because they make me walk slow and I risk to slip easier, but I think they look good, though,so I sometimes wear it anyway. I like to wear lots of colours but I try to match them the right way. I'm too sensive to negative comments from others. I try to update my clothes to look fashionable but sometimes I just go my own way too. I don't really like the idea of expencive labels because I think there is snobbery tightly connected to it and I don't have the money for it anyway ;-)

Re: Caring about your appearance
I care how I look most of the time, but I never am like perfectly put together. Wrinkles in clothes, hair a little frizzy.
I think it just takes to long to get eveyrthing perfect. I am too impatient most of the time. I try to look good without to much effort tho. |

Re: Caring about your appearance
I care very much about my appearance, and I love to shop for clothes. Trouble is, I don't have too much money to spend, and I charge a lot of things.
I have trouble putting outfits together. I buy a lot of separates, and still have nothing to wear. Despite having nice clothing, nice outerwear, I often mess it up by spilling stuff on it, or forgetting to use a lint roller. It's like I'm *almost* put together. I am extremely fussy about my makeup. It has to look good during the day, but if I'm going out, or going somewhere special, it has to be absolutely flawless.

Re: Caring about your appearance
If my mom didn't send me clothes, mostly shirts, she thinks I'm a twiggy and always sends small pants that don't fit, and my husband didn't buy suits and professional attire for the office - I'd be wearing t-shirts, jeans, sweatshirts and be happy as can be.
I seriously need to go shopping for some clothes now that I've lost weight but just don't care enough to commit...everyone's looking forward to Black Friday sales...who cares... |

Re: Caring about your appearance
It is hard for me to care about my appearance.
I dont think that i am pretty. I usually wear either jeans or sweats or something like that, and a t-shirt or sweatshirt. I usually put my hair in a ponytail, although i did recently have it highlighted. I rarely wear makeup and do not like the chore of putting it on. I wear little to no jewelry. I wear my wedding set alot of the time. I dont do my nails, although i occasionally paint my toenails. It is pointless to do my nails. I will chip them and not get them fixed and they look awful. I rarely wear my contacts, as glasses are easier. I figure it is pointless as i am overweight and do not find myself pretty. When i get very depressed, i will care even less about my appearance. I am in that way of being now. I am working a lot. Like about a hundred hours a week. It is a busy time at our family business. I work 12 hours a day, and havent had a day off since i dont know when....way before Halloween. All i do is work and sleep, and my knee that i am getting surgery on in December is causing me intense pain. I know i am looking even worse than normal. I havent been eating and i have not even been taking a shower every day. Some days i barely comb my hair. Some days i wear my clothes to bed. I wear old ratty clothes, but generally they are clean, and i wear deodorant and brush my teeth. I have no idea when the last time i shaved my legs was. I have bruises all over me, my knee is weak so i shake and am unsteady a lot of the time when i walk. My eyes are hollowed out and have dark circles around them, and my cheekbones are hollowed out. I am overweight, but it is like my meat is just hanging on my bones or something. Hopefully Thanksgiving weekend i can rest. I have several days off, other than we are hosting Thanksgiving for the entire family. But i will have several blissful days that i dont have to be up at any particular time, which is heavenly. When i dont have to work and can rest more, i dont even have to take pain pills for my knee. Right now, life revolves around ibuprofen, vicodin, ultram, and icy hot. I feel too old for someone so young. When i am feeling better, i do take care of myself better. I am not fancy, but i am particular about certain things, like my laundry soap, shampoo/conditioner, body wash etc. I am very attuned to smells. I like my bath products to smell nice. I like my deodorant to smell nice. I do not wear a lot of perfume, but i like a nice bath gel and lotion. I am also very attuned to soft things...i have certain pajamas i like, certain socks i like, certain shoes i like. Once i get to liking something, i do not want to try anything else. I have a blanket that is velvety soft that i lay on the couch with or take to bed with me. It is something called "sherpa" and it is brown on one side and looks like sheep skin on the other. Its heavenly. I like to just lay there and pet it. LOL. I am very into things that feel good, smell good, and taste good. I dont splurge a lot, but when i do, it is something involving physical pleasure. Soft clothes, fuzzy socks, rich lotions. I splurged on our mattress, it is a huge thick double pillowtop. It is like sleeping on a cloud. Divine. When i was younger and had a nice figure, i tried to wear cute clothes, but they always looked stupid on me. I never could coordinate my outfit with my shoes etc. Which is funny, because i like shoes now. |

Re: Caring about your appearance
I care about my appearance, but not enough to spend hours to do hair, makeup, etc. I wear the bare minimum of makeup, usually just concealer and powder foundation. My hair is almost always put up because it's thick and unruly and I don't have the patience to deal with it. My standard uniform is jeans and a t-shirt.
I used to spend more time getting ready when I actually worked outside the home and didn't have kids, but never really went overboard. Even then I wore the bare minimum of makeup and kept my hair short so it would be easier to deal with. I also liked shopping more when I was younger, skinnier and clothes looked better on me!! Now I can't be bothered with shopping either. |

Re: Caring about your appearance
It just depends on what kind of day I'm having. If I feel good, I'll do the bare minimum of eye liner and eye shadow. if not, it's no make up at all and flare sweats and a T shirt all day.

Re: Caring about your appearance
I've gotten lazier and lazier when it comes to wearing make-up/doing my hair/wearing nice clothes etc...
It's also such a task for me, because I find it INCREDIBLY boring. I sometimes dress up/look "prettied up"(as he calls it) for my boyfriend, though. But he loves me for who I am and thinks I'm beautiful either way so it's a win-win! ![]()

Re: Caring about your appearance
It's not as if I don't care, it's just immensely frustrating. I do not feel pretty, so applying make-up and choosing pretty clothes seems like a total waste of time to me. And I can't deal with compliments at all.
I could probably learn to do ok make-up ... but I would need practice, and I can't make myself practice anything that seems to have the only effect to change my looks from 'I feel I look horrible' to 'I feel I look horrible but other people can't see it because of the make-up'. And my figure is way too feminine. I'm currently overweight (BMI 26), so it's also that, but when I weigh less I have the choice between clothes that make me look sexier than I'm comfortable with, or those that make me look like I weigh more than I actually do. The easiest way out is jeans, tee and a hoodie.

Also, i understand the feminine figure thing, I am also overweight, but in spite of that, i am curvy. My waist is small in proportion to my chest and hips. So if i wear anything snug, i look slutty, like i am trying to show off my chest. Then, guys talk to my boobs and won't look me in the eye. I tend to wear clothes that are too big on me. I am sure it makes me look fatter, but i cant seem to make myself care. Also, i hate having to put on makeup when we go somewhere. It is like torture. It takes a long time and is boring. I have started getting my hair cut in a shoulder length cut that doesnt require me to style it. I really like that. I dont like to spend time on make up or hair. That being said, what makeup and hair products i have, i am particular about. I really think guys have it easy. Other than having to shave every few days, they just shower and are good to go. I remember how awful it was putting on makeup and doing hair in high school. My hair was HUGE. I had to tease the crap out of it and used tons of aquanet and black eyeliner and sparkly lip gloss. It was brutal. |
