I'm weary and lethargic. Drainedd.

I'm prescribed to take Adderall twice a day, but the day after the effects wear off, I'm drained. I think it's the hot weather. My appetite is low, and I don't feel like moving. What should I do? I'm kind of stressed-out also? Any advice?

Are you in the heat wave area, too? It's been insanely hot here for a whole month now and yeah, after a while it CAN drain you. Best advice I can give for that is to drink a whole lot (though not of alcohol of course since that makes dehydration worse). Maybe try drinking sports drinks (Powerade, Gatorade, etc) at intervals not too close to when you take your meds.

I have been on and off twice a day addys for a couple years now, and hydration is definitely super important; especially in the heat. As for the come-down feeling, I usually try to plan for an early night or a late rising to catch up on rest and to sleep through the worst of it.

As for the stress, I might rant a little here so be warned, I have a theory on why I get so stressed out on the med's. At first I thought it was the whole "speed" aspect but now I think that when the med's are doing what they are supposed to (help me focus, keep on a train of thought for longer than 12 seconds, and remembering basic things like paying the electric bill) I am forced to recognize the areas of my life where I have fallen short of my own expectations.

I can usually get myself back on track and concentrate on achieving my goals instead of beating myself up for not having done so yet, but it is not always easy. This may not be the case for you, but when I'm feeling stressed on the med's and I do something productive like clean, write, or go outside and enjoy myself it seems to wipe the stress away. Hope that helps some.

Yeah, I work outside also. The heat index here ranges anywhere from 102-114 degrees. It's horrible, and whenever I start to drink water it makes me nauseous. The thing is, I just want to do a really good job at work, but this heat is outrageous. It makes the negative effects of this medication like 10 times worse, like insomnia, overfatigue, nervousness, huge suppression of appetite, stress, dehydration, constipation, headaches/migraines, etc. I drink so much water though, but that never seems to be enough. Lol. It kind of gives me the feeling of failure because I plan things to do at work, and fail to do them. It's feels depressing. What do you think? Do you think I'm just better off not taking them during the summer months?

Don't worry about it sounding like a rant. Lol. You're just explaining your point-of-view. I think that's what it is, really, but it's like I don't have enough energy to even get up when I get home, after setting goals at work. I'm starting to think this is detrimental during the summer months, especially when working outside. Thank you for the advice though. (:

That's a lot of unpleasant side effects right there! Unless the Adderall is doing a stunning job of helping your focus and other AD(H)D stuff, I would switch meds altogether.
