Yeah, I have tremendous impulse buying problems too. Much better now that my medication levels are correct. It actually got worse when I was over-stimulated from too much caffeine with the vyvanse.

Re: My ADHD means impulsively buying things =

I just put my name down for a rare Col John Sheppard garrison uniform action figure on Gateworld forum. But he is super rare. I can't believe that Stargate merch is getting so rare. Ronon Dex is going for $299. I'm not buying it. He was hardly a likeable character for me. When he's around $50 I'll think about it.

The guy hasn't got back to me yet.

So far I've just been trying to get through my Doctor Who Monthly magazines and I've been watching a lot of movies. And everytime I've been thinking of spending my money I've been stopping and thinking. But Earth Unaware by Orson Scott Card is the next book I've decided to read, for my research too. I can get away with saying that. It's a sci-fi book that has me playing online multiplayers as research. I've finished one book and am almost finished another one, and me finishing two books without buying four more is very rare.

So I think I've been doing good. Let's see what happens on the weekend.

I have the TARDIS mug. It's a bit chipped from my incompetence and over usage. That reminds me I need to be getting my tea soon.

Those Popculcha guys they sure know how to rope you in.

I asked them how tall their talking Daleks were.

They replied: these highly detailed and poseable Dalek action figures are 5″ tall.

So I bought one. I've been looking for a bronze one for ages.

They've changed the theme song over the years. They've sped up the tempo now. I don't like it as much.

That anti-time device looks like it could annoy a few cats. But I won't buy it yet.

I've already bought two items today. It's not even the weekend yet.

How do I tame my impulse buys? I'm a girl. I have tons of nail polish. I have tons of beads. I have bought 3 pairs of shoes in the last month. It's not funny.

Impulse buy = Dopamine Jolt

L-Dopamine = LDOP (Local Deity of Power)

My goddess L-DopA demands monetary worship ... but, really, that's to be expected of most deities, yeah?

Sometimes just setting a "no impulse buy" rule is helpful to me. NO NOT EVEN THAT PACK OF GUM AT CHECKOUT! I only go to stores with a list or a specific item in mind. Anything beyond that, if I really want it then I wait until the next day to decide.

Sometimes I walk around with an item I want like I'm going to buy it, then put it back. It satisfies some little part of the impulse buy experience.

Same, I always impulse buy weird things.

So far the weirdest was a baby tarantula. Not sure why I wanted one, but it's kinda cool on my desk.

I refuse to go to the mall. I can't go in and come out empty handed. >_<;;

Hahah! I've done that before, but usually I just end up buying it >.>

Yesterday at the supermarket (I was there for 2 things) I told myself "you're going to impulse buy ONE thing.. go nuts." That worked pretty well. I ended up buying some mussels marinated in garlic. Mm!

Re: My ADHD means impulsively buying things =

I'm good at supermarket runs. My list is now inside my head. I very repetitive. I would have bought more but my sister had given me her chips and chocolate and I thought I had enough.

There was a book sale yesterday. My logic was it's not always there. It was in a community centre on my street. So I bought three books. I thought for once I had hardly any books to read while I'm waiting for another one in the post. I usually have three or four to read, and now that is just the case.

I'm focusing (obsessing) on my writing again and spending time on the internet which means I'm less likely to click on a link and buy the entire interwebs. I like waiting for things to arrive in the post. It gets me through the week.

I usually buy very specific things relating to my collections or research. I'm not sure how the nail polish or shoe buying thing works. My recent pair of shoes are already starting to fall apart. I usually have one pair and wait months to years to replace them.

Maybe...try to buy one certain colour a month? If you plan when to buy your nail polish/shoes and work out some sort of colour system you can take control over the impulsive purchasing. Says the person who's under the mind control of the BBC UK and Diamond Select Toys.

Re: My ADHD means impulsively buying things =

I was able to break my impulse spending habit when I realized I had absolutely no money a couple months ago.

But I used to buy things I didn't need constantly and I realized it's a rush in a way, just the act of buying something. I bought a boomerang that I've never used but when I bought it I was imagining myself becoming some sorta boomerang master. I did try it once, but it didn't come back to me and I was not about to go running after it.

I work completely freelance, which for years was never a major problem, but the economy has caught up to me and it's harder to get work than it once was. Thing is if I'd saved money from before I wouldn't be having the difficulties I'm having now, common sense, new to me!

Besides getting paid in cash makes buying random useless items even more tempting. I'm hoping I've learned my lesson this time. I did buy a pair of shoes this weekend just because they were gray and on sale... I relapsed. But I'm wearing the shoes. Unlike the boomerang wherever that is.

Re: My ADHD means impulsively buying things =

For the last couple of days I have been searching for hours what I want to buy, but could never decide from so much choice. Yesterday I did take one extra dose too.
But I didn't buy anything.

The only items I have bought were a limited edition signed Tim Roger's album (whom I will see next week) so I need to have heard some new songs by then and a raglan 3/4 sleeved Ender's Game shirt, because it's getting hotter so I need a light weight shirt that will cover my upper arms, cause I gets the eczema.
And I don't know when I could go clothes shopping in the city because I'm always writing, reading or doing something around the house.
