Newbies not allowed to give rep points, I'm fuming

This is childish of me, and the grown up in me just wants to let it go, but after 4 months I just got a bad rep from a newbie, from a post that is dated 4-07-12 for cryin' out loud! I am P*****!!! So I disabled my rep points, I'm not gonna allow a brand new person on the forum to tell me I am wrong!

So I noticed this newbie has a disabled reputation himself, so I know it probably won't happen but I feel newbies shouldn't be allowed to give any kind of rep points. When we know they are gonna stick around for a while, then they should be allowed to. Just MY opinion!!! sorry but I'm P*****!!!

Re: Newbies not allowed to give rep points, I'm fuming

That sounds annoying. I think, no one should be allowed to give negative rep points. I just don't see the point of them but we've had this discussion before.

If you feel that the negative rep is unfair you can contact a moderator and they might remove them for you.

Re: Newbies not allowed to give rep points, I'm fuming

I thought that rep points from newbies showed up as grey boxes?

I don't remember how long it takes before they show up as red or green.

I do think it's hypocritical to give rep points but have one's own rep disabled.

Re: Newbies not allowed to give rep points, I'm fuming

To the best of my knowledge, "newbies" have to have at least 100 rep points [they start out with 10] and, I think, have made at least 10 posts before they have any rep power. They need 200 or 90 days as a member to be able to negative rep you - because only half a member's rep power counts towards a negative rep.

Otherwise the box next to the rep message will be gray.

How do you know all this stuff abi? You're amazing.

Anyway, yeah, it's not that big a deal rate, turn them back on and don't sweat it, newbies can't do a whole lot of damage.

Re: Newbies not allowed to give rep points, I'm fuming

For what it's worth, all the gory details of how rep points work can be found here:
http://www.addforums.com/forums/faq....q=rep#faq_rep1

Don't sweat one negative rep! Just keep posting good posts, and it should sort itself out in short order.

And as noted earlier, if you feel a negative rep is truly abusive or harassing, please report it to one of the Administrators, Andi or Andrew.

Re: Newbies not allowed to give rep points, I'm fuming

Usually the system is self correcting. Those who are prone to giving out more than the occasional negative rep often do not receive much good rep in return. Of course there are exceptions but in general people receive as good as they give.

Re: Newbies not allowed to give rep points, I'm fuming

Thanks guys... I think I just had a 'moment'....ugh.... I would never complain over negative rep points from a long standing member or even someone who's a member. But when I saw 'newbie' basically telling me my post was wrong from four months ago, I got a bit upset, as you can tell.

Thank you for the support, it means a lot to me and so does this forum.

I didnt know we could give a bad rep? really?

But I agree with you. There are things I didnt understand when I was a newbie, also when you have been a member for awhile you get to know each other and the way they think.

Mostly we learn to be supportive with our feedback rather than not to be...thats why I love this forum so much. Because the support seems to be the first and foremost intention of every member.
