Today was the ultimate wakeup call that I must really have severe inattentive ADD. It made me really look back at all the memory issues I am struggling with. It was just a matter of time that this issue really caused me grief, which this afternoon it did. I feel pretty overwhelmed about
I took my oldest daughter to her last gymnastics class of the summer. I was late and disorganized as usual and snapped at my girls because I was stressed about this (even though I didn't plan ahead for leaving the house - it was my fault for being late). But the worst part was when we left after the class was over. I had my pretty new laptop (few months old) with me and I sat it on the front hood of my car while I put my bag in the front seat and strapped the girls in. I made a mental note to NOT forget my laptop was there as soon as I sat it down. I got home, I got the girls a snack, and went to get my laptop to get some work done and....BAM. Gone. I frantically searched for it - I drove back/retraced my steps, I asked all the businesses in the area if anyone turned in a laptop...no one knew anything. So I'm out a laptop and it has some of my business information on it and pictures that I since deleted of my digital camera. This really made me take a look at the last year...and I noticed that I forget things constantly. I had left the stove on a handful of times...I actually left my laptop on the hood of my car once before (you'd think I'd know better by now ) and I just jump from one thing to another and the previous thing I meant to remember or do to is ancient history already. I am scared...do I really need to do something so severe as go step-by-step through every part of my day so I don't forget? Do I need to write down to remember even the simplest things, like make the pot of coffee my husband asked for? My husband tells me day in and day out that I need to make a schedule for every day and follow it so things like this are preplanned. However, I don't know why it's so damn hard to make one. My anxiety kicks in and I am overwhelmed with what to list first.Anyone...sorry to ramble...can anyone relate? |

Re: Really Awful Day...can anyone relate to this?
First off - Seriously huge hugs. You aren't alone. I'm sorry you had such a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. *hugs*
Secondly - I can totally relate. I've had those days where it's like...you can't do anything right. No matter how good your intentions or how hard you try... somehow things managed to get jacked up. |

Re: Really Awful Day...can anyone relate to this?
Yes I relate!
I drove off with the gas nozzle still in my tank! I left the bath water on and flooded my apartment. TWO TIMES!!!! I forgot my ipad was on my lap when I was driving, and when I got out of my car it fell face down on the concrete and broke! Before that my ipad fell into the bathtub. I let my bank account go into overdraft for a 99 cent DVD at red box. Its now in the negative $161.00 because of overdraft fees, I cant pay it and its accumilating......ALL FOR A 99 CENT MOVIE!!! Try not to be hard on your self. Easier said than done I know. But you had a lot going on that day, any one could have made that mistake. Actually a lot of people do make that mistake. Just think it could be worse, about a month ago a lady here in my home town forgot her baby was on top of her car and drove off. Luckily someone found the baby safe in its car seat. But!! wow can you imagine?!

Re: Really Awful Day...can anyone relate to this?
I am so sorry your day turned out this way!!! To answer your question, yes, I absolutely can relate!!!!!
- One time I had a HUGE project for work that I had to complete overnight. I left work @ 10:00pm and thought I had my work laptop in the car. I get home - it's not there. Sooo, I get back in the car and drive back to work to see if I had left it on the car and maybe it fell off... Nope - it wasn't in the parking lot.. It turned up a week later in my another office.. Under a stack of papers. I have no idea how it got there! I'm not trying to trivialize the situation... It can make things worse if you beat yourself up though.. Try not to do that... Easier said than done.. I know.. |

Re: Really Awful Day...can anyone relate to this?
My post from yesterday sounded negative... and I apologize for that. It is difficult when things like this happen.. especially when you were having a tough day already.
My experience has been something like this... I beat myself up relentlessly after losing something or ruining something... I spend time in that frame of mind. Then I try to move on by doing things to keep my mind off what happened, trying to replace what I have lost and talking w/ my husband and friends about what happened. Then I begin to feel better and laugh at myself..Trust me - there are many things about myself that I laugh at on a daily basis.. which helps me. I hope you are having a better day today and that you are not beating yourself up for what happened!!!! |

Re: Really Awful Day...can anyone relate to this?
**HUGS** You are sooo not alone. I have left numerous things on the hood of my car and have driven off forgetting them (luckily it has not been my laptop, not yet anyway). And I am KNOWN for leaving the stove on, which I am so scared one day I will set my home on fire. Its such a horrible feeling and so frustrating. Just try to not beat yourself up about it. **HUGS**

Re: Really Awful Day...can anyone relate to this?
Oh sweets, you're so not alone.
It may feel like you can't do anything right, but you can't beat yourself up... this crap happens to us all. And my mom is just like your husband, "You have to make a daily schedule and STICK to it!" and so on and so forth... Well, we would if we could, right? Just don't get down on yourself. Some days are always going to be worse than others. Keep your head up =] |

Re: Really Awful Day...can anyone relate to this?
Yes. I left my phone on the hood of my car and drove off. It was smashed to pieces. I've also threw my phone into the washing machine. It wasn't even in a pocket or anything, I just threw it in cause I was holding something and for some reason, thought it was laundry. One time, I left my phone in my open pocket, went on a ride, and it went flying off. As you can probably see, phones are the devil with me!
But basically, forgetting things, breaking things, it happens to all of us. It sucks, but the good news is that it'll hurt for a while and soon it'll just fade. Hope things improve for you! |

Thank you everyone for your kind words and for sharing your experiences! Don't worry Anna3000 - I didn't take your post as negative at all!
I can happily say that there was a positive ending to that drama filled day. I filed a police report and the next day someone turned in my laptop! It was found on the side of the road somewhere by some out-of-town good samaritian...and furthermore, the laptop stills works just fine! I could not believe it! Needless to say, this experience DID really make me realize that I need to take more time to prepare instead of rushing and then making mistakes (easier said than done for me...but I will try whenever I think of it). |

Re: Really Awful Day...can anyone relate to this?
i dont know if i can speak here yet. im waiting to get checked. but this is how bad i went
![]() .smacked into a microwave 3 times cos rapid zoning out .zoned out during work and nearly gave back the customer his money for the meal when 'returning' .i concentrated too much on something, got in the way and got stabbed in the hand in the kitchen .i have also locked myself out of the changing rooms, went to get my keycard and failed to pick it up again. .lost my coursework i spent ages doing(forcefully) .got told off several times at work cos i sometimes hear a mumble or sometimes dont acknowledge ppl. My symptoms are on and 'off' sometimes more severe than other days, which leads to arguments with teachers who think i dont care about college work :'( i'd hate to say im worse of than you, but we're about equal.. just like to let you know your not alone with this im a silly nutter ![]() |

Re: Really Awful Day...can anyone relate to this?
I'm not diagnosed (got my assessment in a few weeks) but I can totally relate too!
Just the other day I left my back door open and went out...then panicked that I thought I'd left it open whilst on the bus...and was so busy worrying about that I forgot to get off the bus until 3 stops after the one I should have got off at! I frequently leave the stove on, drop/smash things because I forget they are on my lap, etc, etc. |

Re: Really Awful Day...can anyone relate to this?
I forget a lot of things. I used to could remember everything. I never wrote anything on a calendar. Now, I write appointments on a calendar (that it, if I remember to), but what really helps me is sticking notes on my door or door frame. I started that a couple of years ago, and it works wonders. If I'm not home, I'll call home and whoever answers, I ask them to write a note and stick on the door for me.
I realize that wouldn't have helped with your laptop. That really stinks. I did that with a camera once. However, I do think that writing down even little things, like you mentioned making coffee for your husband, will help. Goodness knows it won't solve everything. haha If it did, I'd be on time and organized, and all that good stuff. I'm nowhere near there. |
