Restless "limb" LEG Syndrome

I don't know where else, I would post this and it is just a general question, sooooo.......

Recently (within past 3-4 weeks) I have had RLS really badly.
Not just my legs, but my arms too. It happens all night long and disturbs my sleep.

My legs are the worst. They move and situate themselves all night. It is almost like they NEED to be up walking.

In the past two weeks, my arms have started doing it too.

I haven't been able to sleep past 3-4 in the morning, because I get so ticked off, I have to get up and walk or stretch.

Very rarely can I go back to sleep.

Does anyone know why this happens?
Anything about it?

I AM looking for a solution, but I would like insight towards the cause also.

My hubby has really been disturbed in bed recently due to it and I'm exhausted.
Exhaustion magnifies my other symptoms, so I really need to get this one under control.

I should mention I take Trazodone for sleep. 150 mg and I have been doing it for 9 months.

Xanax as needed for anxiety, but it is rare that I take it before bed.
(like maybe once a week or every two weeks)

I appreciate any input.

Jen

Re: Restless "limb" LEG Syndrome

I don't know why it happens but it also happens to me quite a bit. I'll get a few days every few weeks, also sort of phantom muscle pain to the point I had to take a pain reliever to sleep. However, I found once I started taking a daily vitamin it just didn't happen anymore. Maybe that could help?

Re: Restless "limb" LEG Syndrome

Re: Restless "limb" LEG Syndrome

Myoclonic jerking. It's common to get it before sleep. Heck, my whole body does it as I'm falling asleep. I also suffer from sleep paralysis occasionally.

Maybe it's a side effect from the medication that is just starting to show. Ritalin gave me mild facial tics after about 8 months of taking it. Or it could be caused by stress or stress could be making it worse.

It can be a mild form of seizure but even tingling is. I get all that accompanying the serious stuff.

I'm sure there's a more scientific explanation about what's actually happening in your brain as you go to sleep. I remember reading as you reach REM sleep your body become paralysed. See, I sometimes wake up like that while living through a nightmarish scenario in my bedroom. Anyway, I don't know enough to say why your limbs are moving instead of going still.

fracturedstory:

Thanks for your insight, it could be due to stress. I didn't even consider that. I am going to my pdoc Thursday. I may run it by him and see what he thinks.

It just gets frustrating.

I'm not sure how everyone else is, but when I don't get enough sleep or when I am tired... I am like milkshake in the blender with no lid...

Spinning.. Spinning... and S... hits the fan and stuff goes everywhere.....

Re: Restless "limb" LEG Syndrome

The internet told me that low dopamine may be a culprit; Hmmm, I see a connection?
So we have low dopamine.

I have restless limb syndrome. I won't have it for weeks and then I will have it 1-2-3 times in a week for awhile.
It used to just be my legs, now I get restless arms.

For those who don't know, it feels something like electricity going through your arm(s) or leg(s) and they only way to stop the current is to move, as soon as you stop it comes back again.

AND, it's really annoying!
Comfort and sleep cannot be found on those nights.

Re: Restless "limb" LEG Syndrome

If I don't get enough sleep, well, the singer of the band I'm listening to just said 'scatterbrained.' Thanks Mark. ADHD 100x worse. You'd think I'd be tired but no, I'm running around in circles, and hyperfocusing on a new thing every 10 minutes.

Re: Restless "limb" LEG Syndrome

Milkshake with out the lid I like this

I've always had this, I read in my new ADHD meds leaflet it can be a side effect, maybe it's starts in some from meds?

I've always been weird restless sleeper, bit lik what fractured said, I get the paralysis too, also lucid dreaming, which I thought everyone did till I was disgussing a great one I had with my bro and he was like eh there a name for that and I can't do it. Sounds like cliche but when stressed/sleep deprived its way worse. I also grind I teeth but no awareness of it except the state of my teeth!

If your doing any thing different? Maybe that could be causing it?
