Weight loss on Adderall.

Hello. I was recently diagnosed, and have been doing a little reasearch on the different medications to treat ADHD. I am going to see my doc Tuesday, and I think I may give adderall a try. What I am wondering is, did any of you lose a substancial amount of weight over time while taking adderall? I know it is one of the side effects, but it will be a welcomed one for me. When I was a teenager I was pretty slim. After I was diagnosed with ADHD, I was put on Dexadrine. I hated it. It made me feel like a Zombie and very antisocial. So I refused to take it, or any other medication. After I stopped, is when my weight started to increase. I got pretty big, then I lost a lot of it when I had a very physical job where I was constantly moving. Since then I have had two kids, and I am a stay at home mom and my weight has once again increased. This time a lot. I am the heaviest I have ever been in my life. So I am not going to mind the weight loss too much. I just cant wait to feel better both mentally and physically. So if you al don't mind me asking, if you were on the heavier side when you started adderall, what was your total weight loss?

Re: Weight loss on Adderall.

I was not heavy when I started adderall, but the appetite supression part of it wore off in a few months.

Re: Weight loss on Adderall.

I remember when I was on Dexadrine, I never seemed hungry. At first I couldn't barely eat. Eating did get easier after a few months, but I did not over eat like I tend to do now. I eat out of boredom sometimes, and I am hoping that even after the appetite suppression wears off, that it will help me to not over eat.

Re: Weight loss on Adderall.

I am on my second month of adderall xr and noticed my food cravings dropped. Since starting this medication I went from 217 lbs at my last dr visit on July 3rd. To 194 lbs today.

I also noticed my cravings for soda/junk food are gone. But they are slowly starting to come back at the same time. And I too am welcoming this weight loss as I have been working my butt off trying to get back down to 180 lbs, and I am finally getting close to my goal.

Oh and I forgot to add I am 6' 1" tall, so I was considered overweight before I started taking this med. Now if I drop below 170 I will start to worry, as my ideal body weight for my activity level and muscle mass is 175 to 185

Re: Weight loss on Adderall.

After having kids and everything I have gotten pretty big. I would like to lose at least 50 lbs if not more.

That would be wonderful for me, but I need to lose about 100 pounds to be in the middle range for my BMI (I'm not a muscular person by any measure... sometimes I think my 22 lb dog has similar strength...)

Re: Weight loss on Adderall.

I have been on adderall for a few years on and off now. I also workout and lift weights eat lots of protein and take vitamins....

When I started, i found it very hard to maintain my muscle mass, I had to eat so much more all the time, and workout a lot more to maintain all the muscles i have.... so taking the medication i am not fighting a battle of fat but more fighting a battle to keep the drug from eating my muscles lol...

So This drug will give you the whole fight or flight effect... Just remember ADDERALL will mess with your metabolism, whatever is leaving the body, make sure to replenish it or your body will change.

If you stop taking the medication after some time, make sure you have a plan because your metabolism will be substantially slower and if you binge eat you could gain lots of unhealthy weight fast.

After all this time of taking this medication, i found if i don't have enough money to keep lots of meats and vitamins and my protein powers stocked in my kitchen, then i will start too turn into a skinny zombie =)

SO NEVER ABUSE ADDERALL BECAUSE IT FEELS GOOD! ^^

no, Strattera. However that does nasty things to your appetite as well.

I was doing good before on my weight loss (had only 50 pounds to go) and then my best friend fell off a roof...

Then I got somewhat lazy...

Then recently started Strattera and all my life motivation went away.

Have you been on it for a long time? Some people on here have been saying the appetite supression wears off after awhile. Sounds like you are not welcoming the weight loss like me LOL. Maybe your appetite will come back??

Re: Weight loss on Adderall.

Haha yeah well I tend to take breaks on weekends every 3rd week of the month on average. Because I like too keep my muscle figure and stay in shape and healthy. When I see I am loosing muscle mass from adderal it's more of a insecurity thing I will take a break when I see a opening too do so... I have been taking adderal like this for almost. 4 years now and my methods work for me lol.... But I also

Eat high proteins veggys drink lots of milk take vitamins protein powers ect.... Seems too work for me because regardless adderal will make you loose weight if your not putting back what it's taking away

I have not been on Adderal, However, I was on Ritalin as a child.

I am looking at changing my medication. I have been on Stratera for 3 weeks (as of today).

the side effects have been HORRIBLE. I cannot stay awake, but I cannot sleep, I feel like I have the flu, etc.

I feel asleep during a security shift at work... yeah... not good.

On Strattera, I lost like 5 pounds, however I know that it is unhealthy for me to lose weight too quickly, so it took some force to be able to not lose more. I also have been eating higher calorie meals since being on it. However, overall I think I have made better choices with the amount of food I have ate.

I should note; my weight changes constantly. I am one of those whom weights myself every time I go in the bathroom. It is not so much about the weight though, its more of "I just need to do this",

Though I do need to lose some weight. I have had no motivation to go to the gym on Strattera now. It really sucks, since now I have time to go to the gym when I am on campus I have a long enough break where that wouldn't be bad at all. (It worked great my first semester on campus).
