SCT and career
Has anyone with SCT (not regular ADHD) found a career they were able to be good at?

Re: SCT and career
Have ADD-PI. Sure I have SCT too.
Slowness has made everything difficult so far. I'm thinking of getting out of current, demanding job and finding reception job to free me up to work towards becoming a freelance illustrator. I'm good at art ( the only thing I've been consistently good at). Just hope I can produce it quickly enough to keep clients and pay the bills. Will now be watching this thread like a hawk!. |

Re: SCT and career
lol
I think I asked a similar question a while back. Basically we're f'ed. Just find something you're passionate about and make it your life. It helps if it's a field where people aren't as proactive because that's where we can possibly win. It seemed to be working for me somewhat until I lost that passion and everything fell apart. If anyone has anything more positive (and truthful), it would be great to hear; for now, treating my problems seems like the only way to move forward instead of trying to find a way around the endless road blocks.

Re: SCT and career
Well altough I'm young I still do have something like 7 years of varied work experience. And...so far, I personally I don't think it's possible to have a "suitable" career.
1-I'm too bored and inattentive to be able to do things I don't like 2-Things I do like (emergencies and personal challenges) drain me of energy quickly so I can't sustain a whole career on that only 3-Always need novelty of things I care about to keep alive, this can be very hard to find 4-Always need to be anxious to do work, because as soon as I relax and let myself "feel the moment" or "be myself" I make huge mistakes/forget stuff If that sounds like you, sorry but I think you'll have to suffer through life too. The only exception would be if you had loved something from childhood (since I don't even think it's possible for us to develop passions late in life) and made that into a somewhat artistic/sporty job in which you're allowed to be your SCT self. I've registered for Land Surveying courses because in theory it looks like a good job for me (mixes intellectual/technical challenges + going outside but have "rest" periods since I think you have to compute the data, plus good pay) but it terrorizes me that it might end up not holding my attention at all and I go back to start I'll probably report later this year about how it is

Re: SCT and career
I worked 14 years in various retail/retail mgmnt/customer service/sales/collections positions.
I lucked into a job, and stayed, for 13 years in a residential vocational rehab. First a p/t snack bar helper, then p/t temp. residential staff, then f/t contract residential staff, then a f/t salary residential/life skills staff. Things started going downhill in the last 3ish years and it became a toxic environment and I finally had to resign. I'm doing p/t private, non-medical care giving and have started a small inventory of crafts from stuff I already have or get from thrift shops, and home made cleaners/toothpaste/lotions, etc. to sell at a local farmer's market, etc. Looking forward to more of that. ![]() I'm always a fan of doing what's meaningful whenever it's an option. You can usually build on that because you "feel" it, too. But I also know that current times don't necessarily allow for many options; expectations for entry level positions are over the top in a lot of cases; chances of advancing decrease with budget cuts, etc., etc. Things are tough all over.

Re: SCT and career
I would like to note that I graduated college with a 2.8 gpa and got a 1000 on my GRE (average).
My main problems are short term memory, remembering/hearing verbal instructions, working memory, and attention to detail. My biggest challenge by far has been listening when being spoken to directly though. Maybe this will help you guys help me. |
