Does dexedrine make everyone high at the start?

Hey y'all - I've just been diagnosed with ADD and my doctor gave me dexedrine. Yesterday was my first day - 2.5 mg in the morning. It made me pretty high - like I'd done cocaine - pretty much all day. By the evening I was getting pretty agitated but that wore off and it was just a nice buzz. I couldn't really sleep and then today I'm still buzzing a bit and generally feel like I was out partying all night. Not sure I should take it again today.

Is this normal to start? How long does this effect last?

I would say that is a fairly extreme reaction for such a small dose. You may adjust... but coked out at 2.5mgs. I don't even feel that at 30 0r 40.

not so much, in fact i feel quite chilled on dex, its more my ADHD that makes me feel 'high/hyper' during re-bound

i'd keep taking it...it doesnt take long to adjust to dex (as i've found so far) im up to 20mg, was prescribed to me 6 days a go

High?? I wish!! Never happened to me always made me more relaxed and outgoing but never felt any euphoria like from Adderall.

Are you sure that's accurate, 2.5 mg? I've never got spun off dex and I take a whole lot more than that. In my experience drugs hit me hard at first but my body quickly builds a tolerance. I highly doubt you'll continue to have that type of reaction but everyone is different. The question of if continuing would be if the benefit of increased focus was worth the side effect. And dex may not be what works for you. I'm curious as to who makes the version you're taking. Is it name brand or generic? if generic is it a Teva product or from another company?

Not sure who makes it...how do I tell? Yeah, it was a 5 mg pill and I took half. I'm super sensitive to drugs in general but my doc told me stimulants work differently than most drugs and wouldn't generally mean I'd also be sensitive to this...guess he was wrong!

I didn't take it again today...it's definitely not for me!

Oh god, yes. In my case, the first time I took 5mg of dextroamphetamine, I spent the night incredibly high, sweating, euphoria, dancing around my house endlessly to electronic music. It was almost as strong as what I've felt from ecstasy in the past, except also with the motivational kick to, you know, simultaneously clean things.

Some people can indeed get that high the first time around, and it should subside quite quickly with use.

How long did it take to subside for you? Because I definitely can't go to the office that high :-P

That particular night was unique, and I never experienced anything like that again. It still took a few days to get used to the drug, as anyone might need, but nothing comparable. Rapid heart rate, some sweating, agitation... the usual suspects, really, when it comes to amphetamines. But yeah, no more apartment raves

Everyone's totally different, but in most situations, these types of drugs can have an intense reaction initially, followed by your body building tolerance. How that manifests itself for you is going to be different, but I am aware of no situation where the initial effects do anything other than subside as your body adapts.

I wouldn't say I was totally high, but definitely a bit euphoric. I also couldn't sleep for about the first week, I'd just be laying awake all night. I was actually still a little euphoric for the first few months and while I got to sleep a lot easier after the first week, I was pretty much never tired when I had taken my medication - it was wonderful! Particularly since I was a shift worker. Of course that has now worn off and I can take an afternoon nap even if the medication has just taken effect. My appetite was also almost non-existent for months too but totally back to normal now.

Maybe you could try taking even less next time - like a quarter of a tablet? Maybe not when you are about to go to work...

I've actually never felt high on Dexedrine, nor have I when I was being prescribed Adderall. It simply clears up my mind. I'm able to do everything a normal person would, with the amount of effort that they'd put in, where as without it I'd never get anything finished, I'd never leave the house, I'd procrastinate until the world ended, and I'd be out of focus, unable to maintain conversation, unable to open up properly, and unable to obtain what I need and want in life.

If you feel high, then perhaps you're being prescribed too high of a dosage, or it's the initial phase of the medication acting on the CNS and neuro-endocrine system....it should pass after a day or two, though if it doesn't then I'd talk to my doctor if I were you.

Perhaps Dexedrine just isn't the right type of medication for you...

I got really high when I first started taking dex. I think I started with 2.5 mg. I really loved the feeling though and it sounds like you don't. In any event, the high feeling wore off very quickly, within a matter of days.

I was afraid that meant it wasn't working anymore but my doctor showed me that is was by having me repeat the tests I had taken pre-medication to show me that the meds were still helping me concentrate, even though I didn't feel high.
