Trying to Convice..
I am going to go and see a new doctor that specifically deals with Adult ADHD ADD issues. I was referred to him by the hospital that I go to, because I told them what my old doctor said. He said I didn't have ADD because I just have Anxiety. So he refused to put me on a new medication.
Well, problem is ok. But, I found in my chart at the hospital that the doctor wrote in there that I have had problem's with Drinking and/ or drug's in the past. The truth is yes I have been a drinker. But, I've been sober for 7 months and I attend AA twice a week with a sponser. This is the honest truth and I absolutely love going to AA meeting's. I even got my mom into going to Alanon because my family has a drinking problem. Not all, just some. I also have never had a drug problem. Every UA I've ever taken has been clean. The only exception was when I was on vicodin for my back pain, I ran out and took some of my friend's methadone pill's. So my UA came up showing it in my system. My doctor even thought it was no big deal at the time. Because, I explained the truth to him. I thought that all opiates were the same thing. I didn't think taking my friends methadone was anything that was bad. I mean in common sense every family or friend has taken each other's same medication here and there. I know a lot of people that have done it. But, when I was unaware that they all are the same. I have not taken my friend's no any other person's pills since than. So how can I make it look to the doctor that I am safe, I am ok to go to try a new medication? My therapist said that since he know's me pretty well that he can tell the doctor that he will explain to him what I was talking about. He is not like going to vouch for me. But, he is going to inform the doctor about how I am really trying. And, how I have been sober for 7 months. So I have been doing really great. I guess. I just want to finally be able to try something that may help me. Because, my life is not going very well right now and it is mostly because I just can't sit down and focus on anything. I really want to get help. I am certified and diagnosed with Adult ADD. It was a really good diagnosis too. So what can I say to them? Because, I also don't want to look like I am doctor shopping or anything you know.

Re: Trying to Convice..
Itīs well documented that adults who havenīt been diagnosed or treated for adhd often end up with substance abuse issues including alcohol, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, dangerous behaviours, relationship problems etc and these issues can hide adhd. So hopefully as specialist will be able to help you.

Re: Trying to Convice..
My psychiatrist knows about my history with alcohol and drugs including meth.
He doesn't have any problem prescribing me stimulants. Self-medication is common with adhd, and the good doctors know this. Regards, |

Re: Trying to Convice..
That's true. If I am not treatde than I would end up right back to where I was before. And I had ADHD all along so I wasn't even aware that I was doing these thing's to myself and people around me.

Re: Trying to Convice..
In the US, it will also discourage a doctor from treating you in the first place.

Re: Trying to Convice..
Yeah you are right. The reason was I ran out of my vicodin and I thought methadone was the same thing. So I took a few until I found out that they weren't. I haven't taken anything since though. I know it will show up in a UA, but I also suffer from arhtitis and fibromyalgia
