How much Ritalin should I take for a ~6 hours test? (SAT)

Hello everyone,

I'm new here! seems like a wonderful community.

I have my SAT coming up for soon, and I'm not sure what combination of Ritalin or how much to take. I talked to my doctor, he basically told me to "experiment" with what I got and see what works best. He gave me Ritalin LA 30mg, and Ritalin SR 20mg.

My doctor recommended against IR form of Ritalin, especially for test, because I might crash. So I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

Combination of things I thought I can do: (Again, my doctor told me as long as I don't exceed the 60mg recommended a day, I shouldn't worry.)

1)30 mg LA. And that's it, but I'm worried about the trough after the third hour mark.
2) I can take 30 mg LA + 20 mg SR OR 2x30mg LA at once 1 hour before the test.
3)30 mg LA 1 hour before the test, and another 30mg(LA) or 20mg(SR) during one of the breaks.


I realize that everyone is different, but I would still like to hear some suggestions/other experiences.

What dose do you usually take? My guess would be that you'd be better off taking that, and if need be taking another dose during the break, than trying to double-up ahead of time (which might be too much all at once, and still not lasting through the end of the exam).

at exam time i usually took my concerta a few hours before then bombed 10mg ir about 25 mins before going in...then another 10 mg ir at the half way mark...this shouldn't be a problem if your exam invigilator knows your on meds, especially if like me your entitled to off the clock rest breaks to deal with digetness etc....i wrote like crazy this way, sadly bar two exams (one 71% and another 68%) i failed all of my others...ritalin unfortunately didnt make up for an entire year of adhd shennanigans and missed lectures :P

re ir for exam, if you have the la buzzing away in the background the crash shouldnt be that hard..especially if you time your ir's accurately and work out how long they last and are effective in your system (i say your because everyone varies, best i can get from an ir ritalin now is 2 hours)
