Euphoric reaction questions.

My friend and i both have adhd, he says if you take excess meds you still get euphoria. We both argued for quite a while because we have a depletion of dopamine. So i didnt believe him.

I HAVE NO INTENTION OF ABUSING MY MEDS, IF YOU ARE GOING TO SUGGEST THAT OR BE RUDE PLEASE DON'T POST. I JUST GOT INTO AN ARGUMENT ABOUT THAT TODAY AND AM CURIOUS, YOU GUYS HAVE A LOT OF EXPERIENCE THANK YOU. i need my meds and only take prescribed dosages, i passed last year by 4%.

Re: Euphoric reaction questions.

I realized over the years that what I thought was euphoria was actually how I was supposed to feel, after so many years of being so scattered, thinking clearly and feeling relaxed and focused felt like euphoria to me.

I know I could take a bunch of Dexedrine and feel pretty good but it's not worth it anymore. I don't have a script for it and if I did I would be wasting it. I value functionality over euphoria these days.

After awhile I only notice if I don't take my meds, because my head will feel foggy and I'll feel a little sluggish the first couple days. Besides I'll miss things left and right without it.

Re: Euphoric reaction questions.

Euphoria is not something I've ever associated with dex. Anything but!!! Dex brings me into the harsh reality of the NT world but it enables me to function within it. Euphoria is what I experience more when I don't take my meds.

Re: Euphoric reaction questions.

Funny that this should come up just now. I'm taking Ritalin and I've been browsing around on the forums and not getting what people were talking about when they talked about euphoria or control of symptoms.

Yesterday before class, I took my usual dose, but not thinking about it, I took it with Mountain Dew Code Red. I've always had a sensitive reaction to caffeine, so you might imagine what happened next.

Holy FREAKIN' balls.

I was seriously weirded the hell out. I was absurdly happy, for no damn good reason. And I wasn't moving. At all. No fidgeting, no tapping, no bouncing, no pen flicking. NOTHING. To top it all off, I was less distracted, focused completely on the lecture. I still had my mental tangents, but I could pull them in and not get fully invested in it to the detriment of my learning.

It was creepy as hell. I told a friend about it and I must have sounded stunned, because he went "Yeah. That's how most normal people are." I honestly didn't realize how MUCH I was different from the norm.

Hoping to never do that again, but it really has given me a perspective I never completely understood before. I'm certainly not going to think I'm just a 'borderline' case anymore, because. Wow. That was a bit of a wake up call.

So back to the question. Solid yes on the euphoria for me. It may vary on body chemistry and metabolism though.

Re: Euphoric reaction questions.

THe Euphoria side effect is an interesting one. The question is...Is it really euphoria or are we just so enlightened and happy about how the meds are working and how we've supposed to felt our whole life that we are initially euphoric?

FOr me, like someone else said, the euphoria was extreme for a couple weeks but slowly wore off. That being said, even today, I do feel a slight euphoric buzz for an hour or 2 after each dosage...just the meds doing their thing I think

Re: Euphoric reaction questions.

Regarding the question of taking extreme dosages, I find "less is more" with Adderall. I usually take 60MG, though I am prescribed 75MG. There have been days I take 75 and I have even taken 90MG on a few occassions during long days and nights, but I find it works much less effectively. 60MG seems to be a much better number for me. It works the way it is supposed to. Anything higher, I am just too wired

Re: Euphoric reaction questions.

I got the euphoric feeling when I first started on Adderall, nothing since then. Not even when I switched to Vyvanse and now Dexedrine. If I take too much I get sleepy, zone out and become a zombie.

Re: Euphoric reaction questions.

Yes , it can give you a little euphoric felling in excessive doses , but that will come together with a really bad crash and depression afterwards , it's like a stim "hangover".

Remember that abusing uppers and downers is a highway to addiction and also it'll make the medicine much less effective in your treatment, because taking your meds during a "hangover" will only make you feel as you haven't taken any, it'll just make you less sad.

Uppers and downers are dangerous if you abuse them, also they're less "fun" that illicit drugs when abused, so it'll be less fun , equally dangerous and will damage your treatment.

If you think that your friend is really going to do it , show him a topic about someone having a hard time from the substance abuse and addiction sub-forum, some cases over there are really bad , I hope it changes his mind, believe me , nothing is worst than felling unable to stop doing something that only hurts you.

also remember that if you react nicely on your prescribed dose , it doesn't mean that you'll react well to an abuse dose, even for who is used to take it , abusing can cause nasty side-effects.

ps.: Just as a note since I haven't stated it before , illicit uppers and downers will affect your treatment as well.

Re: Euphoric reaction questions.

How long does this crash/depression last? My friend missed a day of school and has seemed down lately actually. He has been acting up more too! Does that mean he is screwed? will his medication work for him anymore?!

The duration depends on the body , how long he was abusing and if he "detoxed" after (stay away from uppers and downers until his body is back to normal), it's really rare to be permanent or something like that (unless it's a chronic abuse) but as always each body is a different body...

It's not recommended to stop taking the meds without medical supervision, the right thing to do is him telling his doctor about what happened so the doctor aware of his medical history and so on make the decision on how to proceed.

Because of the forum rules I don't think that I can comment any further about his case.
