Re: Affirmation and Quotes
“I know your in a tough situation, try to be a positive, smiling ,person even when you feel terrible. Say good morning and Hi to all you meet with a smile and after a while they will smile back. Believe you could be the only smile they get in a day, be consistent, force yourself at first, soon it will become natural, make it your duty, you’ll see results, stay strong!”

Re: Affirmation and Quotes
Obeying the limits we must set for ourselves
As I think you might be aware of , I struggle with a chronic neurological disease called “Ataxia”. It has forced me to adapt my lifestyle to the situation not fight it. I started before my diagnosis when I accepted something was wrong. I was a social drinker of alcohol and never set limits to my drinking, I wanted acceptance by my peers, and being a “partyer”seemed to make them want me around, then I got hooked and it became a necessity.I had no clue or wanted to have a clue to set limits. Now we are suppose to obey speed limits when we drive its the Law, most of us Know that and obey it. Why obey limits set by government and not obey limits we set for ourselves. I am , “Gluten Limited”, “Meat Limited”, I chose to be Alcohol Free, Tobacco Free, and “Street Drug Free” and “Rx pain meds free”. Now some will say your “Fun Free” also, that someone doesn’t know how to obey there limits. Don’t do everything at once, start with one thing , when you have that under control add another, make it a good habit, we are stronger than we think! Good Luck, you owe it to yourself and keep it up and you will be an example to others. |

The Ways We Touch
"Have compassion for everyone you meet, even if they don't want it. What appears bad manners, an ill temper, or cynicism Is always a sign of things no ears have heard, no eyes have seen. You do not know what wars are going on down where the spirit meets the bone." ~Miller Williams

Re: Affirmation and Quotes
Do we have to give empathy to receive it?
Since I’ve had to deal with the health situations I have, I also have noticed I am very sensitive to how I feel others portray me. I have a physical Disability and use a quad cane to help me walk and even after years I still feel stares from others at me. Now there are also people who have invisible to the naked eye disabilities that are not given attention , so which is more devastating , I realize now the answer is there is no winner. I have learned first hand the meaning of empathy, and also realize I still must have empathy for others as much as I want to receive it.Even those who think they do not have flaws, I’m damaged and people notice it , some can hide there imperfections, to me perfection is a myth but I realize some demand it from others as well as themselves |

Re: Affirmation and Quotes
Hi All,
A mandatory evacuation has been declared for my town on Sun @ 4pm. I've done it before, I go to Red Cross shelter and feel safe. I'll be off grid with limited E mail and no phone till Tues or Wed hopefully. If power is out later, Going to shelter gives me a safe place and I do Some face to face support. Just another bump in the road, I'm packing and trying to prepare, stress effects my Ataxia bad! I'll be Ok! Jace49 |

Re: Affirmation and Quotes
Quote:
As for people with a visible disability, I never know how to act. For instance I regularly see a guy in a wheelchair in the supermarket, I donīt want to ignore him and pretend I donīt see him (but then again why not, I donīt know him and I pretty much ignore everyone else in the supermarket). I also donīt want to make eye contact and smile in case he perceives it as patronising or pitying. So what is the right thing to do? |

Re: Affirmation and Quotes
“In general, the reaction of those around towards someone who begins to search for the Way [objective Reality] is negative. This negative attitude is the result of the action of the General Law, which, as we know, tends to keep man in his place. [...]
[...] HE WHO SEEKS THE WAY BECOMES DIFFERENT FROM MEN WHO CONTINUE TO LIVE WITHIN THE [CONSTRAINTS] permitted by the General Law (and thus take mirages for reality). Due to this, he will feel himself more and more isolated. The center of gravity of his interest will progressively turn to esoteric work, which will end by absorbing him completely. [...] THE 'WORLD' WILL BE HOSTILE TO HIM, because its own purposes are different [...]. The day will come — if he remains in the same milieu — where, apart from rare exceptions HE WILL BE OPENLY OR SECRETLY HATED. The Way is a one-way street. Meaning that whoever begins to walk it is forbidden to turn back. This is not because of some kind of external imperative, but due to the fact that each step forward on the Way irrevocably modifies the content of whoever has started walking it. It follows that he will become more and more of a stranger to his surroundings; that he will lose more and more interest in exterior life, in which only yesterday he participated fully. The appearance of things, and especially of beings, undergoes a deep change in his eyes. He will one day be surprised to constate that certain faces which only yesterday he found very beautiful now reveal to him marks of bestiality behind their features: not all, but many of them! The more man progresses on the Way, the more his feeling of being a stranger is intensified. Soon he will become boring: later still he will become unbearable, and finally, odious. That is why ‘the prophet is DESPISED IN HIS OWN COUNTRY, AMONG HIS CLOSE RELATIONS AND IN HIS HOUSE. That indication is precise and leaves no room for doubt. [...] However, as well as the difficulties which are the first results of his evolution, such a man will receive comforting impressions, especially in his human relations. He will be surprised to perceive one day that CERTAIN faces which only yesterday appeared to him ordinary, today shine in his eyes with a bright beauty. It is because his sight, sharpened by esoteric work, HAS ACQUIRED THE FACULTY OF PENETRATING BEYOND THE EXTERNAL CRUST. IT IS AMONGST THESE BRIGHTER BEINGS THAT HE WILL FIND HIS NEW FRIENDS. Their society will welcome him as one of their own. He will be understood among them, and their community of common aims and interests will be a stimulus and a help for all.“ ~ Boris Mouravieff, Gnosis
