[quote=Subtract81;1385940]yeh im back on 18mg, I think i need to start getting more sleep as i think that has been affecting me, thanks for the link.

I suffer from insomnia aswell and so have done some research on this... I have read once that you are more likely to die from a lack of sleep than a lack of food so ye, sleep is key!

Let me know how you go on 18mg... I got a feeling I'll need to drop my dose so will be interested to know how you go with having caught up on that sleep!

Re: Day 5 on Concerta - Lost it..

Couple of things:

One, Flory could be right . . . sometimes too little of a medication is just as ineffective and full of side-effects as too much . . . 18 mg is literally the smallest dose you could possibly take of Concerta . . .

Personally, 18 mg of Concerta put me to sleep. It made me a complete zombie. Higher doses got rid of the zombie effect, but I felt like I'd had way too much caffeine. Really jittery without much positive effect on focus.

In general, response to medication varies widely from person to person. Concerta didn't work for me, for example, but Adderall at a much lower dose did much more for me. You may have to play around with dosing or with different drugs to find the one that works best for you. You may respond better to an amphetamine than a ritalin-based drug like Concerta.

Another thing about Concerta: the pill itself is the extended-release mechanism, so you *can't* cut it without getting a huge dose all at once.

I think i may have been too quick to judge, having had a great nights sleep and being able to think more rationally and clearly my perspective's changed somewhat.

Re: Day 5 on Concerta - Lost it..

Hi, I am 47 and just diagnosed adhd. My doc started me on concerta 18mg. It has helped my anxiety a lot, I actually didn´t realise how bad it was until it had gone. I`m doing a little better on concentration but not much. I did notice daily changes up to 2 weeks. At first I felt fatigue for a few days but this has gone. My appetite almost disappeared but it a bit better now.

I am on week 3 (so low and slow) and am going to doc tomorrow. However because she cancelled my appointment and last week I doubled my dose. So far not much difference but more tiredness again.

My son 14 also started last week on 18mg concerta, he is calmer (although he doesn´t have major hyperactive problems, he´s very fidgety) and says he concentrates better. His friends noticed his calmness and his teachers noticed his concentration.

Have patience, go low and slow and speak to your doc. personally I feel it´s better to give meds a thorough try before switching (unless you have unacceptable side effects). Often a change in dose can help.

Re: Day 5 on Concerta - Lost it..

i have no motive, this isnt conspiracy theories 101 here, i'm not jansen cilaag's secret drug rep, as you know i changed from concerta to dexamphetamine back in September because i needed a better med (that is, for me...no one med is universally good for anyone person but you have to work with what you've got) there are many many uk members here that can't get ANY help at all, im not saying its right but im saying you should count your lucky stars you've been offered a drug trial and some help...

.....i just get a bit fed up of people expecting miracles on meds and complaining when it doesn't happen....if there is a clinical need for meds, especially over here in the UK, and you finally get meds, you aren't willing to try it properly or at least give it a fair go but want to complain that it isn't working then in my honest opinion you might as well just forget it all together...

For most of us here meds are the only lifeline we have to make us feel able to cope with day to day life, if you're expecting an adhd med to help you make miracles then you are seriously barking up the wrong tree...if you dont like the drug or arent willing to persevere with it...stop it all together and don't waste other peoples time that are trying to help you, think this is one of a few threads and posts you've made about the medicine, if you don't want to take advice..don't ask for it because you're only going to draw your own conclusions anyway

Re: Day 5 on Concerta - Lost it..

"drugs are a lifeline", "don't expect miracles", ok got it Flory, you sound even more confused than me...

For me after a number of weeks on concerta i still feel it does not seem to be working. I have stopped taking it and am waiting to see if i hear anything that rings true to my experiences from anyone else, obviously you are not the person for this job but i appreciate your input. I do not believe i am wrong for not taking everything you say as gospel, everyone is different, you are saying i should persevere even though you do not know me and you do not truly know the effects the drugs are having on me, you are saying because i don't do what you say that i am wasting everyone's time, that is conceited and ridiculous.

All i ask is for people to share experiences not to pass judgement.
